The discipline is the opposite: find the engineers actually shipping this stuff, get them to write honestly, peer-review the result, put it in front of the senior people who have to decide next quarter.

This matters more now, not less. Agentic systems, AI engineering, spec-driven development, reliability for non-deterministic software, these are not incremental changes to how we build. The temptation in a moment like this is to chase the loudest voice.

The detail is easy to miss in the original announcement, but it was deliberate. Version numbers, we wrote, "are usually used on software projects, not public websites". Yet InfoQ would carry one anyway, with a public changelog. We wanted to be accountable to the people using the site.
