BMW people politically call it “a glitch”, but it’s a worldwide and massive software engineering failure. pushing this update without notifying owners or respecting their auto-update preferences is a massive policy failure. we at least know the “don’t update” setting is just smokescreen now.

uploading your bitlocker recovery keys to microsoft is the most convenient way of backing them up, but it's not the only way. you can save them locally to an external drive (USB or NAS). you can also remove existing bitlocker keys from your MS account at account.microsoft.com/devices/reco...

WSL runs microVMs, same tech that was initially developed for running hw-virtualized containers (aka Hyper-V “Xenon” containers) on Windows. It exposes a minimal modern (“born in the cloud”) virtual motherboard, plus state mirroring between the two kernels to keep them in-sync. Really cool stuff.

BMW APIs blocked
Warning . Reported by Home Assistant Alerts

On September 29, 2025, the BMW has blocked third parties (i.e. the BMW
Connected Drive integration) from executing requests against BMW servers.
BMW enforced additional security checks within the MyBMW app to block third
parties (not only Home Assistant, but also other companies such as energy
providers).

You will see error messages asking you to log in again without any success, and
your sensors will not update anymore.
