I have to be blunt in saying that if you feel notable levels of shame in your day to day life because you can’t repay some seemingly owed due, you’re probably looking at friendship wrong. I think some people are a bit too heavy on sincerely believing friendship is about perceived equivalence rather than reciprocation even if they don’t state it. I’ve heard too many stories of people feeling like they’re “owed” something or people feeling as if they have a debt they can’t repay.

From the villain’s perspective, they’ve been entirely consistent the whole way through, yet suddenly, the party they’ve been traveling alongside wants NOTHING to do with them.
