📖 the last bride arc : ̗̀➛ ★★★☆☆½ : ̗̀➛ available september 29th

In an effort to bring the humans & vampyrs together, a treaty was formed stating the vampyr King must take a human bride. The time has come once again for King Vastion to find a wife out of the tributes from each territory. Esiree & her family are intent that she becomes the next Queen in order to bring the vampyrs down from the inside. But as truths start to surface, Esiree questions everything she knows about the vampyrs.

I’m a sucker for duel pov enemies to lovers so when I heard about this arc I was so excited to dive in!! I thought the world was unique with the treaty & other elements that I haven’t seen before in other vampire books.

The story itself is easy to follow & felt very cozy (as cozy as this type of book can be). Don’t be mistaken by my synopsis, there’s actual story happening around our characters. It really feels like a full story, not just focusing solely on the romance which I always appreciate.

Being a standalone, the pace for this story is fast. I understand it’s to get through a whole lot of story within the confines of the book, however I wish there were certain moments we could’ve lingered in longer or seen for ourselves (as opposed to having it happen off page).

Overall I think this was a really fun read!! Perfect for those who want some enemies to lovers, vampire x human with a little spice (okay a good amount of spice) but don’t want to commit to a full series.

📖 the sisters of crimson house arc : ̗̀➛ ★★★★☆ : ̗̀➛ available september 29th

Charley Bryde grew up in a gifted family where everyone had their own unique psychic abilities. The only problem is Charley didn’t inherit any of it. Forced to watch over her talented sister Miranda, she longed for nothing but to be special in her own way. One night when tragedy strikes, the Bryde’s become shattered, forcing Charley to grow up fast having to take care of the family home by herself. The money is running dry & with no powers of her own Charley must get creative to earn money to keep her childhood home alive. But when a skeptic & her long lost sister Miranda show up in town, long buried family secrets come to the surface as things start going bump in the night.

As a fan of ghosts, psychics & overall spooky, this story had me hooked instantly. Charley is able to showcase her found family along with her blood family as we dive into the Bryde family dynamics. I really resonated with how torn she was caring about her blood family who have hurt her & left her to struggle by herself. The complicated family relationships explored felt realistic & even had me questioning what I would do in Charley’s shoes.

The way this book was written was absolutely gothic, eerie beautifulness. Everything felt so dark & vivid I was able to see everything perfectly in my minds eye. The atmosphere curated really fit the vibes of the story & is perfect for a fall spooky read.

The slow build really sets the tension for the end of the book. I felt the author did a good job giving hints to some of the mysteries throughout the book so I was able to fit come pieces together but the reveal still was able to shock me. I do wish we got to sit in the ending a little longer.

That being said I loved the journey this book took us on & all the unique characters we are introduced to. If you’re looking for a spooky haunted house story with family secrets & an fmc fighting against all odds then this is the perfect book for you!!

📖 the exorcism of faeries arc : ̗̀➛ ★★★★☆ : ̗̀➛ available september 8th

Atta works as a mortician & spends her free time doing her own eccentric research. To aid in her research she is studying Botany at Trinity College in Dublin. In order to secure her place, she becomes the TA for the Morbid Anatomy professor, Professor Murdoch. All the while a mysterious plague is killing the people of Dublin. Professor Murdoch & Atta discover their goals are aligned trying to figuring out what’s going on & how to save the people of Dublin. Can they figure it out while keeping their feelings for each other in check?

This was giving all the spooky vibes, a perfect fall read!! Set in the 90s, dark academia setting, a mysterious plague, corpses (Atta is a mortician duh), botany, you get the picture. I felt the writing was so vivid I was able to picture everything perfectly which made this my first fall read of the season just a little more perfect. And the world building didn’t feel overwhelming, I was able to understand everything perfectly.

I thought the romance was pretty balanced with the mystery & motivations of the characters for half of the book. We get to equally see everything develop at the same time & get equal page time. Then, the romance takes a back seat & puts the focus on the mystery.

This book is very much a slow burn. It felt like we really got to spend time with our characters & go through this journey with them. The romance may not be a normal slow burn but it isn’t fast either. Everything is eerie & discomforting as opposed to scary. The only aspect that isn’t a slow burn was the ending. I wish we got to sit in the ending a bit more.

I thought this was going to be a standalone (which it could hold up on its own) but I was excited to see there was going to be a sequel!! I’d love to dive back into this world & see what else is in store.
