so what started me down this path are all the fliers, advertisements, etc in my neighborhood with english-language words transliterated using bengali characters i just mentioned tajik because i realized cyrillic was also used for transliteration by a bunch of people speaking non-slaving langs

wildly besides the main point but this bit kinda struck me—video games get the player to identify with the protagonist, horror movies (often) get the audience to identify with the antagonist, but a horror movie based on a video game somehow does neither

For as much as Resident Evil puts you in the same headspace as the games do,
this is their big divergence. You can only watch as Bryan whiffs shots and fumbles shotgun shells and lies. As a horror-movie protagonist, he's a heel, his incompetence and cowardice there for the audience to rail against. Why the fuck would you do that? I wouldn't have done that. There's a weird splitting of
(dis)identification here, with the audience bounced back and forth like a paddleball.

i'm not entirely sure what to make of spelling "একাডেমি"—"academy"—with an এ, which word-initially is (supposedly) pronounced /æ/ as in 'cat' or 'dad'. it certainly isn't the first vowel in the way *i* say "academy" at least also the second syllable is spelled কা /ka/, not ক‍্যা /kæ/
