"It is clear that Labour needs the Greens to keep them in check everyday to push them towards the real transformation this country needs." @zackpolanski.bsky.social reacts to the Prime Minister's speech at Labour conference.
HOPE IS NOT JUST A SLOGAN, IT NEEDS TO MEAN REAL CHANGE

ZACK POLANSKI
LEADER OF THE GREEN PARTY

"Unlike his predecessor, we have a PM who talks like he gets it. But sadly like his predecessor he isn’t prepared to break from the powerful and wealthy interests that have created an inequality, affordability and a climate crisis.

Hope is not just a slogan, it needs to mean real change. The speech today had no wealth taxes, no rent controls, no water nationalisation and a strong hint of more North Sea drilling.

It is disappointing that we have a country ready to break from the last 40 years, a Labour government with the majority to do it, and yet what we see are more half measures, reannouncements and tinkering."

Small businesses are feeling the squeeze whilst large banks are raking in obscene profits. It's time for windfall tax on big bank profits to end rip-off Britain.

Big banks are raking it in... The UK's biggest banks are regularly making record-breaking profits. Not because they are improving their services of products... but simply because of high interest rates set by the Bank of England. High interest rates = big bank profits.

Take Barclays. It saw profits jump in the first six months of 2026, boosting its bonuses for executives by nearly 30%. Small businesses aren't so lucky. The same high interest rates that are boosting big bank profits are squeezing the small businesses by pushing up costs. Something should be done…A green graphic with coins falling and an arrow pointing upwards with text that reads “Tax big banks to back small businesses” as a headline and “while the taxpayer pays twice” and “As interest rates have gone up, the Bank of England now pays more out to commercial banks in interest than it gets back from the gilts it bought following the 2008 crash. Who covers this shortfall? The Treasury - aka, the taxpayer. And this is on top of higher interest rates we're paying on our loans and mortgages. While people and small businesses struggle, the big banks' profits soar.” as body text

The Green Party is a party for the 99%. We need a more equal society and strong communities to deal with the challenges of climate change. We spoke to Green Parish Councillor Nathan Bradley about how local government can tackle inequality and build strong resilient communities.

We've had record breaking heatwaves, droughts and wildfires with no sign of help from a Labour government that wants to keep drilling for oil. But what about action outside of Westminster?

Swindon Area Green Party has written to Councillor Jake Chandler on the future of the 'Build a Greener Swindon' committee.
Dear Councillor Chandler,

We are writing to you upon hearing of plans to remove the 'Build a Greener Swindon' Policy and Procedure committee.

The committee was seen as an opportunity to deliver green policies for the people of Swindon. Although it failed to live up to its full potential, we are seriously concerned that removing the committee without a significant replacement will lead to environmental policies being completely ignored by SBC.

Could you please confirm what your plans for replacing the committee are, what specific steps will be taken to ensure that environmental policies are considered with the seriousness they deserve, and how you will guarantee that action will be taken urgently to address the issues raised?

We should allow asylum seekers to work – so that they can support themselves and become part of our communities. It’s these common sense solutions, not more performative cruelty, that will fix our broken migration system. metro.co.uk/2026/07/01/z...

Local government in Swindon has been strangled by austerity. Over 85% of council funding goes to social care. Other services are starved of funding. The waiting list for council housing is 6 years. We need real change which the Green Party is campaigning for!

Today we celebrate the Windrush generation and the immense contribution they have made to communities across Britain. Their story is one of courage, resilience and determination, and their legacy continues to shape our country for the better.

The Intersex Inclusive Progress Pride Flag reflects the diversity of the LGBTIQA+ community. Previously, the Council had only flown the rainbow flag. A motion by Green Party Councillors in March noted Swindon's proud history of supporting the LGBTIQA+ community.

Green MPs' response to the violent unrest in Belfast.
Green Party Logo.
This morning we have seen the horrific reports from Belfast of people driven from their homes based on nothing but the colour of their skin, with some politicians, including some in the House of Commons, using a truly horrendous individual incident to blame a whole community.

Bold text: As Green MPs we condemn this scapegoating as racist, wrong and at odds with British values.

Headshots of the Green MPs appear alongside a list of their names:
Sian Berry MP, Ellie Chowns MP, Carla Denyer MP, Adrian Ramsay MP, Hannah Spencer MP.

With the updated EHRC code of practice, the Government is still leaving trans people with a real fear of being excluded from essential services and public spaces. My statement in full: greenparty.org.uk/2026/05/22/s...
Image is a quote graphic that reads: “The draft guidance will mean trans people are barred from services they have previously had no issue accessing, and service providers who want to be inclusive will be putting themselves at legal risk.

“The Government has failed so it is now up to Parliament to reject this document and instead create a legal framework with clear and equal rights for all, which protects trans people’s rightful place in society.”
