If you’ve heard me talk about Star Wars for more than about 3 minutes it’s incredibly likely that I’ve mentioned the old computer game Star Wars Galaxies. So sitting down with *the* @kelly-knox.com and @starwarsmean2u.bsky.social (link in their profile) to deeply discuss it was an absolute joy.

Player Cities have always been a core tenant of Star Wars Galaxies. Restoration is implementing a refresh of the system: increasing the size, perks, and customizations available. Read about it in the link below. What new things would you like added to Player Cities? swgr.org/post/player-...

Watch this. Ralph Koster is a joy, and the breakdown of the Jedi grind in SWG / Bounty Hunter balance etc is awesome. Star Wars Galaxies took some SWINGS at launch, and I dumped hundreds of hours into it. S/O to @swgrestoration.bsky.social for keeping the "best" version (imo) of this alive

Amazon announced the shutdown of New World, and laid off 14,000 people. It launched 6 months after our project, but couldn't meet 4th quarter profits, and it's gone. We're a community developed volunteer run online world. We do this because we love it. And maybe... that's how it should always be.

SWG branded joy to my memory, but it wasn't the dungeons or rare loot chests that made a lasting impact. It was the organic, weird, and often chaotic interpersonal stuff that kinda mirrors real life. It was... hawking meat! Raph Koster says the same is true in @playstarsreach.bsky.social.

Players will find a way... Our content devs created a treasure hunt: find the parts, get the vehicle. Total area of Tatooine? 256 square km. Total time until the first player found all 10 parts? ~12 hours. 🤷🤷 we'll try harder to hide them next time, I guess!
