Yay! Finally finished the last hat for another new pattern! I've been working on this one for most of this year. It's going to be a fairly simple knit pattern but I made hats using every yarn weight from Sock to Super Bulky so that you can use anything you want (minus Lace) to make it.

Thanks! The hospital crafters haven't told me specifics but my guess is it is the tactility (the arms/tentacles) and the cuteness of them that really appeal to the children. I think their shape also makes them very kid-friendly and easy to hold compared to other stuffed animal shapes.

I used a very lovely mostly alpaca/merino blend from a farm, called Greenfield Acres Farm in Tuscarora, MD (picture 2). The Artisan Special "Caroline/Ferrari" Worsted/Light Bulky yarn is exquisite. And yes, the yarn came from the fleeces of two alpacas named Caroline and Ferrari.
