Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Always nice to have a few likely newbies to call on. Sunday night the very earliest I can trap again. 120 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Excellent stuff. Had a couple of White Speck when I used to trap in large garden elsewhere in the village a few years ago, but still waiting on one for the garden. 110 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 06/10/2026How are Lunar Underwings doing for you? 35 of them for me last night, previous garden record was 11 last week. In 2024 I only had 17 in total. 110 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Plenty of @migrantmothuk.bsky.social interest still: 8 Vestal,1 Delicate, 3 Angle Shades; also 7 White-point, 3 Turnip, 1 each Small Mottled Willow & L-album Wainscot #teammoth 0131 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Trapping opportunities hard to come by lately, so 107 of 26 in the SW Hants garden last night very welcome). Autumnal Rustic was NFG, but pride of place goes to Deep-brown Dart: only one previous garden record so six in a night was quite a surprise! Merveille du Jour one of 5 other NFY. #teammoth 3260 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Switched off at 9.30 (moth total at that point 5 of 6) due to hornets. They've been little bother on cooler nights, but didn't want to be dealing with them on a mild morning, especially with wind all night and rain at processing o'clock already as negative factors. 110 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I never seem to do any good once it's into double figures. 010 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 29/09/2026There was a moon when I signed off at 9.30 last night and again/still at 6 this morning here. Not liking the wind forecast tonight but may still try again 120 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Only managed 22 (half of which were Lunar U) of 7 here, can only assume it stayed clearer than forecast because it certainly felt warm enough to be better. 111 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 23/09/202650 of 23 in SW Hants last night inc a big milestone moth: Endothenia quadrimaculana (new 10km square) was my 1000th UK species! Also a late Brussels Lace & NFY Barred Sallow. A few @migrantmothuk.bsky.social still: 5 Vestal, 3 R-d Pearl, 1 each L-album, Beet, Jersey Mocha & White Point #teammoth 4332 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Tonight looking cool and clear enough that I can give the poor things a night off! 110 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Another good night for @migrantmothuk.bsky.social potentials: 10 L-album, 6 Angle Shades, 5 Palpita vitrealis, 5 Vestal, 3 Clancy's R, 2 White Point, 2 Portland Ribbon Wave, 1 each Jersey Mocha, Nephopterix angustella, Silver Y, Four-spotted Footman, C plebejana, Pearly U, Small Mottled W. #teammoth 1121 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Wasn't going to do a 4th consecutive night, but drizzly conditions were too tempting and the result was 214 of 55 (inc 68 LYU, a garden record). Obvious highlight was a NFM Anomalous (averages about 1 a year in Hants). UK list moves to 999! Also 2nd garden Tawny Pinion was nice #teammoth 1260 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Much improved 134 of 53 in SW Hants last night inc my first Gold Spot in nearly 20 years. 2nd & 3rd garden Clancy's Rustics headed a long list of @migrantmothuk.bsky.social Also 8 Vestal, 1 Dark Sw-grass, 1 Pearly U, 4 Palpita, 3 L-album, etc #teammoth 1321 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 13/09/2026My 998th UK species (inc larvae, but exc aggregates), and 993rd for Hampshire . . . 160 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 13/09/202681 of 36 in SW Hants last night, inc a surprise NFM Mecyna asinalis. Only 10 previous county records (to 2024), most on the coast and none in my 10km square. Also a new garden record of 13 Vestals, the most numerous species of the night. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social #teammoth 1372 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I think Rosy is my joint most numerous garden Catocala I think: more than Red, and as far as I can recall the same number as Light Crimson and Clifden. 170 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Have never had DCU, but ironically have been blessed with three garden Rosy U's 120 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Only 47 of 27 in SW Hants last night but did include, at last, my first garden Convolvulus Hawk, 22nd garden addition of the year. Not that many other @migrantmothuk.bsky.social though: 3 Rush V, 2 R-d Pearl, 1 each Silver Y, Palpita vitrealis, Portland Ribbon Wave & Pearly Underwing. #teammoth 3443 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Poor shot of a NFM Golden Twin-spot disturbed in a New Milton, SW Hants, garden this morning. Good for @migrantmothuk.bsky.social at home overnight too, inc a record 12 Vestals (previous best 4!) and the 3rd garden Dewick's Plusia. 4 Hummer Hawks on the buddleia was a record too. #teammoth 0221 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Have just been on a walk on various lanes around the village and it seems it's pretty common wherever there's decent amounts of bindweed. 120 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Checked for silk and frass as advised by @vc33moths.bsky.social : all present and correct, confirming the mines. 130 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Best weather seems to be on the full moon more often than not. Good luck. I'll be out of action Friday and Saturday nights, so need the good stuff to be before. May yet get a Striped Hawk! 220 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Bang on time for the full moon. Thankfully it's not going to get too high in the sky, and hopefully the warm air will also involve cloud cover. 220 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Having only added Bedellia somnulentella to my life list, and that of my home 10km square, last weekend (and only with help on here), have today found several mines of what I presume are this species along the path round to our garage. #teammoth 4171 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Happy to bow to those who know more than me. Just didn't think to look at that family, and it's not one that is generally seen round here 001 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 16/08/2026That's a good shout. Not one that's seen in this corner of Hants much. A new family for me, my excuse for it not being on the radar or in my mind. Cheers muchly. 250 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 16/08/2026First trap in over a week, rewarded with 203 of 92. Barred Hook-tip was the 20th NFG, and this Batrachedra will be 21st when I find out what species it is (see ALT)! Nice to get my first garden Light Crimson Underwing for a couple of years #teammoth 1260 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Cheers Alan. Got another potential goodie in the fridge awaiting a reply from CMR before posting. Migrants are taking the slack for atrocious numbers of resident moths lately. 040 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Accidentally deleted the earlier post🙄 Blastobasis glandulella (Hants 1st, UK 3rd) from May here in SW Hants. Confirmed this weekend by gendet, thanks to Peter Hall, via @wheatersdave.bsky.social @migrantmothuk.bsky.social #teammoth 2352 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Have wondered what causes the webs I fairly regularly see on cotoneaster (albeit never to this extent), you may well have provided me with an answer at last. 010 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 22/07/2026I live 4 miles north of the south coast and have had 37😂 But that's still about four times more than I've ever had previously. And I've trapped less than I would've liked this summer. 040 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Might make it the 9 further miles to me soon then. 120 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I've only ever trapped once on holiday, don't tend to end up at places where an MV would be appreciated! it'll happen soon enough just with garden and local field mothing. 010 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I get a small handful of Maple and Grey each year, so I'm more than happy when they show up as a change from Double-striped 020 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/07/2026With the garden list poised on 799 it only took one more trapping night to bring up the 800, thanks to this slightly battered Bulrush Wainscot. Going to be a long wait for 900 though! Overall 100 of 56 was about par on a cool night here in SW Hants. #teammoth 2343 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I've only ever had one (I don't do particularly well for pugs overall) but I remember being quite enamoured by it, definitely misnamed 130 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 17/07/2026287 of 94 in SW Hants last night included this apparent Bactra robustana (awaiting CMR clearance though), the 16th NFG of the year, with the garden list now tantalisingly poised at 799 . . . #teammoth 2210 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 13/07/2026I've only ever had three Lime at home, most recently in 2023 130 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 13/07/2026Elephant and Pine are about average for me. Poplar numbers have been down this year, and most of the few I have had have seemed very small. 210 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 13/07/2026I'm in serious danger of not getting Privet Hawk this year, one of a fair few that are passing me by. Haven't trapped the last two nights, extreme exhaustion has got the better of me, too old for all this nonsense 😂 140 0
Steve Keen @swaystevek.bsky.social · 12/07/2026I've had tumidana twice, once each in '23 and '25 120 0
