how to use: grab sptm, txm and a kernelcache. they're all in the preboot volume or just use ipsw extract --sptm and --kernel and then python3 proxyclient/tools/run_guest.py -l m4_`date +%Y%m%d-%H%M%S`.log --sptm-mode=emulation --sptm m4pro_sptm.b --txm m4pro_txm.b m4pro_kernelcache.b -S […]

(Almost) all of that is upstream in m1n1 now which means that our hypervisor finally works with SPTM, TXM and XNU on at least M4 Pro now! It's not perfectly stable but good enough to trace most hardware. Let's see about M5 next, it might just work if I manage to disable cL4 / exclaves there […]

Nothing new, but I'm disappointed. Many years ago, Linux represented the alternative. The question was: "Why don't you just use Windows? It's easier." And the answer was, almost always: "To be free." The "bazaar" spirit of Linux and its distributions made us feel free. Personally, I've always […]

they also seem to try to do an online transaction that requires 3d secure authorization while also not supporting that in their terminal so i'm really not sure what their plan here is. even if i gave them one my real credit cards the transaction would fail for the same reason.

@valpackett also kinda funny that usb3-via-4 tunneling just works :D it's not the same sequence macos does because that would need an additional out of band notification but surprisingly this time the PHY seems to tolerate it. usually it answers to such abuse with a full SoC reset

@valpackett it doesn't help that all my devices either negotiated usb/dp-altmode combined because they had SS ports downstream or just didn't have any downstream usb ports so I just never noticed

@valpackett the native host interface itself works now, but only control ring 0 so even host to host still needs a bit more work. Devices are recognized but no tunnels can be brought up yet because the „other side“, I.e. PCIe, Display Controller and dwc3, is not done yet. Still makes for a nice […]

@valpackett I saw the original series and asked to be cced but then wasn’t so I was quite surprised they landed already. The rebase was rather annoying but luckily worked out. This is all related to the quite significant work on top of that since the Apple TBT/USB4 controller is quite unusual […]

@Sobex there's some pin/gpio that has to be configured with the pinctrl driver and when reworking all of this for the upstream atcphy i accidentally moved it to the wrong pin controller. I only looked at MMIO traces and compared macos vs. linux and that just didn't show up in the peripherals I […]

We also have this "minor" issue that we can't easily run our hypervisor on M4+ to trace and reverse engineer the hardware because Apple disabled their ARM ISA extensions in our boot mode. The major problem here is GXF/SPRR which changes the way […] [Original post on social.treehouse.systems]

during that time I finally took a stab at how we'll handle sleep states in #asahilinux. usually, this is done by PSCI running in a higher level (e.g. EL3) reached via hypercall but we're already running the kernel in the highest level possible. instead, someone proposed years ago to (ab-)use EFI […]

Stopping the system fans to heat up the system to shift clock phase by a few femtoseconds is one of the less hinged ideas I’ve seen come out of CERN lol. (AFAIU this was an experiment for a software retrofit to hardware otherwise incapable of such adjustments)
Slide with LHCb logo reading “Phase stabilization under hardware constraints
Using the server internal fans to heat up and cool down the FPGA
in order to shift the phase and stabilize it within a Std Dev of 1 ps.”. A larger text block follows, next to a graph showing clock phase against system temperature. The larger text block reads:

Python script running a PID algorithm
to read the phases and control the
fans.
At the left I set the script to different
phase setpoints. (60, 70, 80 ps)
The plateau in the middle is the phase
shifter keeping the phase at 80ps
even when the AC started oscillating
the temperature up to 3C pk-pk.
At the right end I turned off the
script, which caused the phase to
start shifting with the temperature
again.

@fay59 yeah, I really haven’t been able to build something that’s not a greenfield project or proof of concept and you really have to take a very close look at the output because even the fancy models still get stuff wrong all the time.
