It’s just a harmless bit of fun. Also may introduce people to books they hadn’t previously heard of. That’s not a bad thing is it?

So very sad. Far too young . I admired his work and his human decency. Much love to his family.

Painted in oils on a surface of strips of end of roll silk taffeta on canvas. A 1:1 scale copy of one of my Finnish Grandmother's rag rugs. Re-use, re-cycle, up-cycle. In my Grandmother's day it was just what everyone did. #oilpainting #blueskyart #finland #australianartist
Painting of a handmade rag rug. Turquoise and rose colours. Geometric pattern

Photo taken at Easter transferred onto board. New technique for me which was fun. The swell was huge and it was just me and the seagulls on the beach.

Northern Sunshine Coast - grey skies, no wind or rain yet. Keeping calm & thinking of those further south who are more likely to cop it.

NDIS spending needed to be cut back. There are things I need to pay for for my son that were previously covered but I remember the pre NDIS days when even essential equipment like wheelchairs needed be fund raised for or funded by charities. It was degrading.

It’s true that art & music have therapeutic value even if not specifically art/music therapy. It helps with mindfulness, makes us feel better, happier & improves fine motor skills so I understand why people want to participate in classes/groups. 1/2

His disabilities are multiple & care needs very high but music is a constant when he’s awake. I hope your friend can find some way to continue to go to the pottery studio & reap the benefits from doing so. She must be devastated. I wish her all the best ❤️

The original intention was also to allow people the support to participate in community/society, not just disability groups. In my son’s case his music therapy is in the realm of physio, occupational and speech therapy. It’s not music lessons. He’ll never learn to play music/songs as such.

I agree the way it has been done is too harsh and the benefits of creative activity have been under valued (as always) by government. The range of disabilities is huge & originally the NDIS was designed to allow people to use supports to suit their individual needs to live a decent life.

This would give NDIS package recipients choice and control over what best suits their needs.

There are other people who set themselves up as music therapists who didn’t have the qualifications (but a bachelor of creative industries) & were charging the same rate which wasn’t really ethical. In my opinion there needs to be different categories of art/music therapy billed appropriately.

I agree with you that inclusion is a wonderful thing & I’m sorry she’s no longer permitted to attend your studio & have it paid for from her NDIS package. My son attends music therapy sessions once a week and pays $193 for a 1:1 45 minute session.
