Monday afternoon it clouded over where I am & we had steady rain for a good while. Emma. It cooled things down & gave the plants a nice watering. W/water restrictions, watering gardens is prohibited. (I'm now using laundry rinse water for the garden.) Other parts of the country got rain yesterday.

Nothing that isn't his or doesn't fit into what he wants means anything to him. Things of historical significance, things for the common good, things that he wasn't involved in creating...mean nothing to him.

I read Danusha Laméris' Blade by Blade this week, an amazing poetry collection! I felt like calling people up and saying, "Listen to this poem!" But then they'd think I'm stranger than they already do, so you I just read the poems to myself again...😃🙌 #TheSealyChallenge #SealyChallenge #poetry

What some call "unused land" is often the last safe haven for countless living creatures. Wetlands are not empty spaces waiting to be developed. They are nurseries for birds, natural water filters, flood defenses, and wildlife habitats that cannot be replaced once lost.

UK records its highest ever May temperature
Scientists say record-breaking heat is a reminder of how climate crisis is affecting lives The fierce heat sweeping Europe over the bank holiday weekend has beaten the UK’s all-time temperature record for May, with highs of up to 35C still to come on Monday afternoon. A temperature of 33.5C was recorded at London’s Heathrow on Monday lunchtime, according to provisional data from the Met Offfice, beating the previous May record that was set in Camden Square in 1922 and reached again in Tunbridge Wells and Regent’s Park in 1944. BirdLife Jamaica, a citizens' group dedicated to the protection and conservation of Jamaica's birds, is calling for a closed hunting season this year, in light of the devastation wrought on over half of Jamaica's forests by Hurricane Melissa. Give our birds a chance to recover, says BirdLife.

BirdLife Jamaica calls for closed bird shooting season after Hurricane Melissa impacts
It seems that in some quarters, the terrible impact of Hurricane Melissa, more than six months ago, has been under-estimated. The suffering of our human population, while well documented, still needs considerable attention. The cost (a heavy toll, indeed) to our natural environment is, it seems, still being tallied. Since Jamaica lost more than half of its forest cover (and we are not talking about a few broken branches; we are talking about trees stripped of every leaf, and larger, ancient trees uprooted) one can assume that most of the living creatures that depended on that forest were destroyed.

Muted colours in the eastern sky, as the sun sets in the west today... #Kingston #Jamaica
A picture of clouds over a hill in the eastern sky in the evening, at sunset. At the bottom of the picture, the canopies of trees can be seen. Above them, the dark grey outline of a hill. Above that, a pale pink cloud and above that a watery blue sky, with pale bluish-grey clouds. To the right of the picture, there are four fronds of a traveler's palm tree. The colours are generally pale and muted.
