We've had a lot of rain over the past week in Shropshire, but I'm still surprised at how quickly shrubs, trees & grass have begun to recover from the drought. The Ribes sanguineum - new shoots; the Rowan - a few green leaves. I thought I'd lost both. Even the grass/moss is greening up #UKGardening 🌱
Ribes sanguineum almost bare brown branches. A few brown leaves & partly scorched green leaves hanging on. But buds are appearing on the branches. Behind are the green leaves of privet. Below right a couple of large leaves of Bergenia. Below right green ivy covering the groundBackground is green from various neighbouring tress. Along the bottom a few upright light grey/brown bare stumps. (These are usually covered in climbers but the drought 'dome them in'). In the foreground a few branches of a Rowan. Most of the leaves are brown & hanging down but to left bottom corner and near the middle to the right are a few green leaves.Patch of weedy grass. Previously it was dry/dying. Now there are tufts of green grass which growing as well as green leaves of native wildflowers. Lots of dead brown 'thatch' between. Top left part of a leaf from a plant growing in a black pot & tray.

I've been looking at what seems to have coped with the drought. This Viburnum probably benefits from being on the north side of the house with no Sun from late morning. I don't water it. #GardensHour
Dark green, deeply veined leaves of Viburnum. 3 bunches of berries turning red. No sign of water deprivation.

It's what we call a galvanised bin in the UK. ☺️
A shiny bin with vertical indents making it look striped. A handle can be seen on the left near the top. It has a lid with similar indents from the perimenter to the centre. The lid also has a handle. These were common in the UK before plastic 'wheelie bins'.

You reminded me of the most useful cookbook that I inherited from my Mum. The plastic cover she made for it serves as wallet for recipes collected from food packets/labels & apparently a recipe I wrote down for her for 'my' fruit cake. 🤗
The open cover of an old recipe book. Various pieces of paper cut from or removed from food packaging, including Homepride flour's bowler-hatted mascot Fred the four grader & Robertson's Mincemeat. Part of handwritten recipe fro 'Sue's Fruit Cake to the right. The price 3/6 (3 shillings & sixpence) is written in pencil top right on the facing page.Closed book standing upright. The cover is plain orange & the title 'The Good Cook's Encyclopedia' runs down the spine. It is standing on a cream blanket with black stitching around the edge & against the dark orange arm of a soft chair. (The book was printed in 1962.)

I'm thinking this is hedge bedstraw growing under my apple tress. Don't remember it being there before but I did clear out a lot of ivy & brambles last autumn which often allows something else to move in & have a go. Also woodland strawberries are up & about all over my back garden. 🙄 #UKGarden 🌱
