This woman has more money than god. She could have made herself look like anyone or anything she wanted, and she picked Nosferfuckingatu.

I mostly avoid saying things about people's appearances, but I am absolutely HAUNTED by Susan Dell and I cannot stop thinking about why the fuck someone would make themselves look like Nosferatu on purpose.

I would just like the record to show that what she ended up doing actually looked very good and it is important to friendship to help your friends look fire when they go outside!

Maybe I should start saying "it looks very 'French lady casual'."

I can't tell if it is because Wales is "rural" (aka a 30 minute drive) or because every carrier in the UK sucks ass or both. I think probably both but

Getting packages in Wales is like "your package has shipped! Delivery is estimated at 10am tomorrow! Please be present to receive the package" Three days later: package shows up three doors down, sitting on the stoop.

The Greek class spent the whole first year mainly just learning grammar, vocab, and reading and we've only really started trying to speak and listen now, so we're being asked to recall like ten things at once
110
Dr. Alexis Turner @surliertexan.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Yeah, reading, listening, & speaking are completely different and I am not a fan of only starting to speak and listen after you have a significant number of operations to perform. Like I can barely understand someone asking one question and you want me to have a whole conversation in 3 tenses?

Dr. Alexis Turner @surliertexan.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
My brain has been wanting to use Spanish, which I learned 80 billion years ago, in place of Greek for the entire last year. But now that I'm learning Welsh and Greek concurrently it's like my executive function decided to get serious and it's cordoning much better.

It just occurred to me that a UK chapter of this is probably historically WAY less politically conservative than a US one lol

Fascinating observations from trying to learn two languages simultaneously: There is actually very little difficulty keeping them separate. Everyone in class seems to "get" material at roughly the same pace. Waiting to converse til significant grammar & vocab are attained sucks pedagogically.

I'm a huge fan of historical textbooks myself. Looking at the way that teaching has changed is absolutely fascinating

We have to talk about the weather in a city we know for Greek class today. So far for Houston I have "There is no spring and autumn, only summer and not summer."

Interesting. I joined the BPL and the Wellcome Library when I first arrived, but I haven't looked into that one yet. They do have a couple of solid libraries where I am, but I'd say maybe only 1/2 of the things I search for are to be had between them.

Both things can be true. Dems in the US soft float things so long that people get bored, the right hand plenty of time to develop a counter attack, and the window of opportunity passes by. Being too cowardly to move at an appropriate speed is a real thing.

Like you didn't even have the dig to find that she uses a weighted blanket specifically. The original post you replied to said very clearly I WANT A DUVET

One user says "I sleep with a weighted blanket but get hot" and Ashley responds "this is my current situation"
110
Dr. Alexis Turner @surliertexan.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
She specifically already said she currently uses a weighted blanket and she wants something different. So, no. Suggesting a weighted blanket is asinine, and you should read more attentively.

I would also accept refried beans in migas or huevos rancheros, which are merely variations on this theme.

Beautiful plate, grim subject: parasitic castration of bees by Stylops, a genus of twisted-wing parasites. It accompanies French zoologist Jean Pérez's 1886 description of the phenomenon. 🐝🗃️ Source: Biodiversity Heritage Library #histbio #histsci #hstm #sts #nature #bees @biodivlibrary.bsky.social

The only style of beans that are allowed to be eaten for breakfast in this house.
Black beans mixed with skillet potatoes, eggs, and sausage, all topped with cilantro, onion, and chilies.

On picking through it, I'm a bit worried that the drought we had this summer wrecked the berries. I'm planning to check out a second spot I know tomorrow and then turn them into jelly and see how it goes.

It's decorative gourd (and wild apple and berry picking season), motherfuckers!
Several wild foraged autumn delights on an olive board, including wild apples, rose hips, Hawthorne berries, and some rosemary I nicked from the neighbor's garden. Not pictured: rowan berries.

And I am saying this as an animist. I think rocks & the wind are fucking alive. You know what isn't alive? Things we killed in order to make tools. To the extent I am willing to entertain the possibility that a tool constructed from dead materials is alive, these assholes are necromancers.
