Just tried the Microsoft similarity checker on a manuscript draft I’m working on. When I saw it found two passages, I got nervous! Then it showed me them: article titles from the reference section. Phew. But what about the 40+ other articles?

Big gender difference on economic outcomes of children born into poverty in 🇺🇸 Rural boys earn more than urban boys, due to a higher proportion of 2-parent homes in rural communities. Meanwhile rural girls earn less than urban girls, explained by a higher adherence to gender norms.

I think it’s notable that some of the first real limits on the use of generative AI were brought to us by labor. Not Congress. Not “ethical” AI shops nestled inside big tech companies. A union.

I think the most heartbreaking piece of this is that the math they are eliminating is required to major and professional succeed in STEM fields. You don’t fix pipeline issues but just removing the pipe!
