If space is an issue, if you can find one, a Commodore monitor like the Amiga 1080 I have is perfect for a desktop CRT (though they're getting pricey now). They take composite, S-video, and RGB, does 240p and 480i, and they look incredible. I have mine next to my main monitor.

Wrote a bit on my own thoughts and interpretations on Chapter 5 after I beat it. Thought I'd share them now. Obvious spoiler warnings for everything in the game so far and I also spoil Moon Remix RPG Adventure which you should totally play if you haven't.

Kris harbors strong feelings for both Susie and Noelle. I've always leaned toward them having strong romantic feelings towards Noelle as hinted throughout the game and more of like a sibling like love for Susie. In my head it is less outright jealousy that Susie and Noelle are a couple and more the thought of "I love Noelle and don't deserve her, she deserves to be happy with Susie, but with them together it's no longer me and my best friend going on adventures every day" which I think is why Kris just hastily decided to make a fountain in the flower shop just as a last ditch effort to give them one last time together before the dynamics of their friend group change.

In this way it sort of mirrors what Ralsei felt about Flowery in that Susie immediately takes a liking to him and this hurts Ralsei as it makes him feel like he's being replaced as a friend by Flowery, especially for someone like Ralsei whose self-worth is defined entirely by how helpful they can be to others when another guy comes along and just does everything you do "better".

But back to the Kris thing this in particular was something that came to mind during the Mew Mew fight as I think there are parallels between her and Kris you can read during the fight and not just the literal ones about us being a soul who is possessing Kris' body just as the Mad Dummy ghost is possessing the Mew Mew doll. I am possibly reading into it too much but considering how puppets have been a theme with secret bosses I feel there's more to it and I feel like everything about Mew Mew's self hatred can be applied to Kris as well. Whether it's through guilt or whatever I don't think Kris feels they are worthy of being loved by anyone

It's been pretty clear since Ch3 that the idea of darkners, particularly Ralsei when he says it, not being "real" isn't something Susie can accept. I've had thoughts about Toby exploring escapism and the parasocial relationships we make with fictional characters in video games early but I feel like it's going to come to a head soon considering Susie quite literally now seems to spend all of her free time in the dark world. I imagine Noelle's going to cause friction by giving her a reality check like Marche does in FFTA. Susie now spends practically all her free time in a false reality to escape her real one. The story has been hinting that this may have been exactly what happened to Dess and perhaps that she spent so long in the dark world she became corrupted and part of it as the knight. Susie will likely suffer the same fate if what she's doing continues, but she will not let go of the dark world easily.

I've had a suspicion since last year that a possible "good" end of the game is going to be like Moon's where the dark world disappears but all of the darkners get to live in the light world to give everyone a happy ending strictly because in a literal meta sense they are just all -- lightners and darkners both -- fictional video game characters with the message of "Go outside and live your life" though likely less blunt than Moon's. I'm not solidified on that theory but it's felt possible for some time.

Ralsei is either trans or at the very least gender nonconforming. Like straight up, no room for any kind of cis interpretation with his identity. This is something I suspected for a while but it is completely confirmed with this chapter, so much that I am kind of surprised that seemingly nobody I know is talking about it. The optional scene in Castle Town where he wears a dress and asks if he'd make a good princess and the negative response is a not-so-subtle "No way bro" and if you agree he will say "It's fun to try new things as long as it's what other people want", Flowery constantly refers to him as "Princess" and by the end he tells Ralsei that he needs to do things for himself and not for the sake of others. And then the final straw of Ralsei's favorite drink being the blue and pink one which Flowery says he knows because it's the one he looked at the longest.

Like it's so blatant, I think even moreso than Digital Circus with Jax. And I wonder if Ralsei's gender identity is either due to his insistence on only doing anything if it's for the benefit of someone else or if he's strictly adhering to the prophecy that demands a "Prince of the dark" and straying from that role basically means he's disobeying the prophecy which in his mind will only cause ruin. It's likely a combination of both, but I am certain it will come to a head within the next chapter or so. Ralsei will have to come to terms with who they want to be and not who they think they should be. I imagine it will probably be Susie who pushes him to finally let go and choose for himself.
