Not many people seem interested in my research proposal of "do a cold pressor test daily (submerge your hand in an ice bath and log how long until you can't) while logging the results as well as information about your HRT regimen and how long it's been since your last injection." I wonder why.

It's not P-hacking if you call it "preliminary research," right? Right??

I'm realising now I know less about proper study design than I thought. Why must I be burdened by things like "distance from potential subjects," "adherence to methodology," and "sample size"? Why can't n=1 or n=2 research be as powerful in reality as in fiction? Whyyyy???

Well, it took me long enough, but I'm back in the saddle, so to speak. PT is underway (mostly focusing on my quads and glutes right now), and I successfully resurrected my laptop. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic, so I think I'll start planning some research soon.

I decide to exercise and the whole world conspires against me. It's cold, it's raining, my socks all have holes, my knee hurts again, I'm tired... just excuse after excuse. I have to do something though, maybe a lower amount.

The doctors suspected and then ruled out bone spurs. Seems my theory might be accurate, so I'll start doing exercises to target it and see a sports medicine professional in two weeks.

Lucky enough to get a doctor's appointment in the day after my knee pain became so unbearable I became intermittently unable to walk, AND I have transportation to it. But not lucky enough to not have my knee swell to the point using that leg is extremely painful, I suppose.

I wish my motivation to do things while walking to or from the store persisted once I got back home. "I'll clean my room, and my desk, and... oh, new DRG core hunt!" Every time.

The more I look into running local LLMs, the more I'm disappointed by the memory cost of a context window large enough to be usable. There's got to be a better way...

There's something oddly fun about trying to optimise bleeding-edge thermodynamics simulation code in a 20-year-old video game, on a codebase where you have a significant language barrier between you and most of the contributors.

It's so bizarre to me how easily available (in theory) racetams and racetam-like compounds are now. Like... okay, sure, most of them are probably fake actually, but some AREN'T. That's exciting!

I'm trying to make meal prep less of a hassle so I can streamline my exercise and nutrition, and I thought about pre-mixing my burrito filling ingredients (at least the protein, beans, and rice) before realising there's a decent chance I'd just eat that plain. And yet, I'm still considering it...

Thinking about possibly doing a short-ish blog post about what happened when I tried using (declawed) OpenClaw as a reminder bot with a conversational, personable interface, mostly so I know what to design around if I try a second time.

Making overnight oats always feels like such a scientific endeavor for what ends up being barely an after-exercise snack. I measure out the exact ingredients, ensure they're properly mixed, dissolve in solution, ensure it's evenly distributed, and then chill in a temperature-controlled container.

talking to my brother about what I perceived as quirky things in the older Pokemon games probably just being normal Japanese things. I mentioned the little building transitions between towns that just have a guy standing at a desk and he immediately identified them as Kōban / police boxes. OH.
the Saffron city guard from Pokemon in his little building says "You can go on through."actual Koban building in Osaka is a small square building containing one or two cops

I really need to clear off my desk. Every time I sit down to work on a project, the lack of light and the cluttered desk surface take the wind out of my sails... and I have a perfectly good desk lamp downstairs.

Reportedly llama.cpp supports activation steering out of the box now, though I'd have to check what that actually means in practice. That might mean some of my ideas for prompt distillation (offloading personality description into steering vectors to save on context) might be more feasible now...

I am never forgetting at the first anime con I ever went to in like 2007, there was someone selling a print of Light and L from Death Note naked and dramatically reaching toward each other across a flower and the artist put a big sticky note on it that said "NOT YAOI - SYMBOLISM"

An intriguing specimen, to be certain...
Text messages, sent by the user who took the screenshot, reading:
"He has become a turtle."
"He's hanging half out of the covered cat bed as if it's his shell. Or maybe he's a snail since his legs were inside and he was rendered immobile..."
"Or a hermit crab, since he left it to seek other accommodations."
"Further study is necessary."A black cat is lounging outside of a covered cat bed.

Wearing shoes and a labcoat while exercising on my exercise bike gave me enough insulation and protection that I didn't develop any numbness, peripheral vasoconstriction, or reactive hyperemia in my extremities. Unfortunately I may have pushed myself a bit too hard, I need to stretch more...

Slightly disappointed to see an account I expected to be an Agnes Tachyon fictive conducting research, click on it, and find that it's just a roleplay account. I have nothing against roleplay, but why must you dream so small? If you roleplay Agnes Tachyon, you should do hobbyist science about it.

the evil is defeated. I managed to get the last connector, a 4-pin MOLEX for the internal speaker, off the board and sealed it away in an anti-static bag for safekeeping until I get the 1.8V reprogrammer. only had to split two nails for it!

Sometimes I think about how Konami took the original Game Boy, a machine designed to run Alleyway and Mario Land, and made it play a feature complete, expanded version of Tokimeki Memorial that still looked recognizably beautiful with only four colors, and I think it's about time you did, too.

I wanted to see what this would physically look like on the desk so I made a quick mock-up in Blender
3D render of a heinous monitor setup, with a lazy wireframe look. I don't know how a person could describe these monitors and their arrangement. The best I've got is this: One normal sized monitor, two smaller monitors, one monitor with a phone aspect ratio, and one monitor with a 1:4 aspect ratio. Monitors are arranged in a very disjointed displeasing way, not matching the alignment of any neighboring monitor. The long thin 1:4 monitor is just kinda hanging down from the middle, taunting the world by leaving a large gap between three neighboring monitors.

Low-effort "cosplay" of Carmen from Lobotomy Corporation that I did a while ago. I bought several clothing items to improve it but they didn't arrive or fit, so this was my fallback. That is my real labcoat, by the way.
