Back on it as I tackle the Rainy City ( @superheronecro.bsky.social ) / @morkborg.com zine adventure mashup I’ve been working on for 4 years off and on. Say hello to the draft spread for the shroom Cellar. Mostly mucking about with color while I key the map all analog.

Draft spread from a Rainy City - Mörk Borg adventure scene mashup, showing a strange psychedelic skull with mushrooms growing out of it on the left (black and white hand drawing) and colored “Sun” circles behind it. The skull seems like it is melting through the black background of the page, showing white behind it. On the right is a hand drawn map of the shroom cellar, with mushrooms growing on the walls and puddles of water everywhere.

One of the cool things for me about running a series of related crowdfunding campaigns over the years is that I start to recognize the names of repeat backers when they back again. We have a small, dedicated following with the Rainy City, and it’s great to see their enthusiasm for what we make.

I've been inspired by Zine Month to make something new... not sure if it'll be ready by the end of February, but we'll see!

A cover mockup for the HAZARD game system. It depicts silhouetted abstract dice shapes (d6s and d4s) tumbling over a bright yellow background.

A cover mockup for a CRISIS one-shot module, called Grace Under Pressure. It has a Bauhaus inspired graphic design showing a stylized eye in the center or radar rings, scanning the ocean floor, surrounded by sea mines. A stylized hand reaches up from the depths.

Here’s an untitled piece by Sigmar Polke, which caught my eye because of how much it reminds me of Rainy City art by my talented friend @warbeard.bsky.social. Like I could see this in a Rainy City zine and not bat an eye. Bill worked well in finding accurate references for the Rainy City style.

“Untitled” by Sigmar Polke, described as oil and resin on fabric, depicting a wizard conjuring a spirit in a magical circle, and drawn partially in a 17th century woodcut style.

Spent part of last night writing up Rainy City content for the next Flott’s Miscellany volume (3, for those keeping track). Mostly random patterer cries (they yell out the news or whatever else people pay them to say) one might hear on the street and barge song titles from the Sump. Fun fun. #ttrpg

Poking away at one of the many stalled @superheronecro.bsky.social works in progress tonight. Been so distracted with work and health bullshit the last few months that I’ve not really done any creative work, so here we try to get back on it. Flotts 2 came out in 2021, so should probably finish this.

Man, I love the flavour-packed zines of The Rainy City, from @superheronecro.bsky.social: speaking octopusses and walking mermaids, gargoyles running errands for their ill-fated magi masters, troubled ghouls and the neverending sound of rainfall pouring down the alleys.

Cover of "A Visitor's Guide to the Rainy City"

Spread from the previous zine with a double-page illustration of the map of the Rainy City.

Two more zines in the same setting: Flott's Miscellany and Beasts of the Outer Swells.

Yet another couple of zines: "A Puppethand's Guide to the Rainy City" amd "The Restless Dead".
