Interesting thought experiment: if you had noise-cancelling headphones that had 'antennas', such that you place microphones further away from your head (to get early warning of sounds), how long would the antennas have to be such that you can cancel out gunshots?

Famously, quantum error-correction on the toric code under bit-flip errors maps to the random-bond Ising model. But what about general noise (e.g. amplitude damping) and non-abelian codes (e.g. string-net)? scirate.com/arxiv/2607.2... (1/2)

'Solvable' circuits, such as dual-unitaries, have gained attention recently as a paradigm of tractable many-body dynamics. With Friedrich Hübner, we came up with necessary and sufficient conditions for any (1+1)D circuit to be 'influence-solvable'. Happy to hear thoughts! arxiv.org/abs/2606.12538

ArXiV has a new LLM policy (Screenshots with alt text so you don’t have to click through to the other place and see all the stupid responses)
Attention @arxiv authors: Our Code of Conduct states that by signing your name as an author of a paper, each author takes full responsibility for all its contents, irrespective of how the contents were generated. 1/If generative AI tools generate inappropriate language, plagiarized content, biased content, errors, mistakes, incorrect references, or misleading content, and that output is included in scientific works, it is the responsibility of the author(s). 2/

We have recently clarified our penalties for this. If a submission contains incontrovertible evidence that the authors did not check the results of LLM generation, this means we can't trust anything in the paper. 3/The penalty is a 1-year ban from arXiv followed by the requirement that subsequent arXiv submissions must first be accepted at a reputable peer-reviewed venue. 4/

Examples of incontrovertible evidence: hallucinated references, meta-comments from the LLM ("here is a 200 word summary; would you like me to make any changes?"; "the data in this table is illustrative, fill it in with the real numbers from your experiments") end/

Actually, I think there are infinite, but are all variations of that 7 hex case with a fully connected middle tile. Removing that, not convinced a non-trivial solution configuration exists (eg. swapping a straight line 180 degrees). Would love to be proven wrong! Here's a 9 hex case I found.

From a pen & paper theorist point of view, I find it much harder to fall into the trap described here, since I find that it *is* the point to understand every detail of the proof (as you say). In contrast, for coding, often I just want a function without understanding every detail and I start vibing

If you have agents who are perfect Bayesians, surely they have a prior and posterior modelling the other agents. But then they have to model that they have a prior and posterior etc... how does one stop the infinite recursion?

Hot take: distributions with infinite variance don't really exist in real life. Everything has a cutoff due to system size. Of course, if the system size grows, then the cutoff grows. So in my opinion distributions with infinite variance are really describing a limit.
