I wonder if Mel has ever thought of what her mother sounds, or sounded, like when she cries

nobody: ... not a single soul: ... fic writer: Idk I just really liked this part, one of my favorites, they make my brain go brrrrrrr 🥹

"You're not wearing any makeup." It was neither an accusation nor reprimand. A simple observation.

Even through the screen, Jayce could feel the precision of Mel's scowl. A knife pressed to his throat. "Very astute, Jayce. Should I have?"

Quick on the defense, he pulled his tongue back, blurting a quick 'no!'

Then one more softer.

Then again with weight behind it.

"It's… refreshing," he found himself admitting. "Raw and… and unfiltered."

It was meant as a compliment, so to be met with silence and a wistful color over Mel's gaze befuddled him. He didn't mean anything by it; for her to take offense, but this was not the first time he's been caught with his foot in his mouth. As compromise he proposed to postpone, move their meeting to another day, if she was still getting settled or jetlagged—

Denied.

His distraction, appreciated.

Okay, cautiously easing his guard.

If anything, he could do that for her.

In the voice of David Attenborough: Look at how splendid! The fanfic writer has received a singular comment. This shall sustain them through the harsh winters. Fandom is a beautiful thing, is it not, audience?

If you call a Black person an animal in 2026, your mouth should disappear from your face for 1 month. We need a strong disincentive because you lot keep doing this.

lol people who call Black people animals absolutely know what they're doing so I don't think we should coddle their feelings. 🤷🏿‍♀️

from chapter 9 of my current WIP :)

"I didn't wish to spook you." She rose to her feet properly as her eyes caught Jayce's form all over. He'd been in long sweatpants, a faded light gray and a ribbed tank top. The tank top was probably an undershirt given the presence of another shirt balled up haphazardly but a pace away from his feet.

i always love when a character’s attraction is indicated by them just describing someone in slightly too much detail. they’ve noticed them just a little too much, even if they don’t describe them as especially beautiful. we the reader can feel them looking too closely

mixed feelings. I'm very excited this will be the first multichap i've completed in a long time. it's also the longest fic i've ever written. thought i don't feel so... engaged(?) with this fandom overall. and that's sad perhaps that's balancing out to feeling ambivalent about writing/sharing fics
