I like to take a photo of plants. It's a good time for me to walk in the park and collect moments I feel are beautiful.

I hoped into the new terminal in Haneda Airport. It’s domestic one, and represents nature in Japan. This area has many details with traditional wood and the scent like a forest. It’s so fresh and healing!

Since October, I’ve been sharing disaster preparedness tips on a community radio station in Nagasaki. I’m providing residents with practical tips grounded in expert knowledge. I’m working together with them to create a program that delivers disaster information closely for the local community.

A major autumn festival is taking place in Nagasaki from Oct. 7th to 9th. It’s a traditional event since the Edo period.

Tasting, experiencing, listening, and talking…all of these activities are parts of disaster prevention. I spoke at a disaster preparedness seminar for women in a Japanese local community. Many participants responded positively to the topic of disaster preparedness.

I conducted a business continuity tabletop exercise for a long-term care provider in Nagasaki Pref., Japan. This training was organized by an organization for Japanese care providers, and staff members actively exchanged views on how to respond to a disaster.

I went the town when I lived as a kid. I’ll speak on a local radio show next month! It’s one of the best things I can contribute to the place and people that connected with me within my profession.

I attended a seminar about national security by Nagasaki University and Seoul National University. It’s truly a privilege to be able to learn from an academic perspectives. This is one of the few opportunities in Nagasaki for citizens.

Interest in disaster preparedness is growing, even in areas with less experience of disasters. I gave a seminar at the Nagasaki City Gender Equality Promotion Center, where I presented examples of disaster readiness for women and frameworks for decision-making during disasters.

Thank you! For your reference, I've attached the slides I used in a recent seminar (though please note that they were hastily prepared and just translated). The Phase-Free movement is gaining traction in Japan, and I advocate for viewing daily food from the perspective of disaster preparedness.

I want to make efforts to enrich my daily lives, but for now, all of I did to do is choose a favorite postcard each week and place it on my desk.

When I went out at night, I heard the sound of ritual chants. It was a traditional performance dedicated to the shrine as part of a festival held in Nagasaki in October.
In Nagasaki, there’s a festival called “Nagasaki Kunchi” in October. The performance shown in this photo features a float known as “Kokkodesho” and one of popular highlights among the many performances in the festival.

I enjoy visiting art museums. Every painting carries not only beauty, but also intention, context, and a way of seeing the world. I think paying attention to those details has influenced how I communicate ideas today.
Recently, I went to an exhibition of Leo Lionni’s works. The best exhibit in these days in Nagasaki.

A little slice of Italy in Nagasaki 🇮🇹🇯🇵 I enjoyed dinner at a Tuscan restaurant. A festival was taking place nearby, and it was a truly quintessential summer evening.
Lampredotto is one of my favorite Italian dishes.A summer festival was held by the Spectacle Bridge in Nagasaki.

As a child, I even enjoyed “reading” dictionaries. Looking back, curiosity has always been one of the strongest motives in my life. Today, I still spend much of my time reading essays, research, and books.
Reading the dictionary was my first adventure. The first foreign book I read was an English encyclopedia about the weather. The book I have read recently that offered the most valuable insights is a Japanese specialist work on intelligence.I love essays by Kuniko Mukoda. I’m captivated by the lens through which she views everyday life.

I enjoy traveling across Japan. Along the way, I always notice evacuation signs, tsunami maps, public announcements, and other local preparedness efforts. Every community tells a different story about how it lives with risk.

Photography taught me to slow down and notice small details. Sometimes a single sign, a shadow, light, wind, or a personal expression changes how I understand a place. This habit of observation has become part of how I approach risk management.

Today, August 9th, is an important day for the citizens of Nagasaki. Bearing in mind the fact that so many lives were lost to the atomic bomb, I reflect on what can be done regarding international security today.
Built in 2024 on the site of a former Fukuoka 14 Prisoner of War Camp, this facility is named "Peace Stadium." It now has a soccer stadium and a basketball arena, carrying on the legacy of peace through sports and culture. On days without matches, it is a popular spot for citizens who come to jog or walk in the morning. From the explanatory text on the sign…

Fukuoka 14 Prisoner of War Camp (1.7km south of the hypocenter)

At 11:02 a.m. on August 9, 1945, an atomic bomb dropped by a US Air Force B29 bomber exploded around 500 meters above Matsutama Machi. At the time, Fukuoka 14 Prisoner of War Camp was located along one side of the Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard’s Saiwai-machi Factory, where about 200 Dutch, British and Australian prisoners were being held. While the prisoners were at work cleaning up the debris of buildings destroyed by an aerial bombardment on August 1st, the bomb exploded, and they were hit by the powerful heat ray and blast wind, eight of them being killed. Nagasaki City has erected this plaque in condolence to all those killed and, based on the atomic bombing experience, to express to future generations the inhumanity of nuclear weapons, and to pray that never again will the catastrophe of nuclear weapons be repeated.

It has been incredibly hot lately in Nagasaki. Between the intense sunlight and the sweltering heat, just stepping outside drains my energy. It’s humid, too, with occasional passing showers and thunderstorms. 😵

Every disaster leaves damage, but it also leaves lessons. I think those lessons deserve to travel beyond regions in Japan.

Who I am (3): What I studied I studied law-based risk management like disaster prevention, and security, at the first university in Japan to offer a faculty of risk management. Looking back, I realized they all asked the same question: how do we reduce risk before it becomes a crisis?
