I have sewn So Many Buttons This vest is going to end up weighing 20 pounds 😅

Slowed somewhat by writing group, but progress was made on the Halloween costume! The collar accent will be covered in buttons and spikes. Please zoom in to those purple pockets they took so long. I dyed a lot of buttons! A little synthetic rit dye & my white button hoard is a lot more fun!

I put in so many pyramid studs my thumb is numb 😅. I'm liking the studs but not entirely sold on the front front pockets or bottom back accent. The breast pockets certainly need some color. A trim on the bottom would probably look neat but I'm running out of cloth.

Hopefully the last round of dying things for the Halloween costumes is in the wash. I might have to do another round of neon green but hopefully I have enough because that is messy & tiring. But also very satisfying. That blue is way bolder in person.

I didn't make a whole lot of progress on the costume today in part because I had some house responsibilities, in part because making unique fabric because JoAnn's got murdered takes a long time. But I started the metal accents and I'm excited.

The wings are attached! Now on to decorative fiddlybits to visually balance them out. I think I'll do some thin straps in the same design over the shoulders. I've also got a bunch of colorful metal spikes. Unfortunately, though, I must go cook, so that's all for the day.

Had to do some kitchen nonsense before moving to the Halloween shenanigans. I've got some mild kimchi and smoked hot sauce. The hot sauce comes out such an intense red.

My local thrift store came up short so I bought a vest to modify for my dad's costume. It's a little too big, completely cotton, and claims I shouldn't tumble dry it. Let's find out.

The bottom layer of both sides is done and the right just needs some touchup and a few hand stitches to better secure the purple feathers without flattening them. I think I'll put some sort of green accent above the wings leading to and over the collar to balance the visual weight.

The pink vest is on a dress dummy with matching pants. The green and purple denim wings are further along the process of being sewn on.

But I had cheddar bread. And I reeeeeally wanted to dip it in soup. So instead of working on my costume I figured I'd whip up 2 servings of potato soup for supper, easy peasy. But I forgot something very important. I CANNOT cook a reasonable amount of soup.

I...I failed. So badly. I made a crockpot of soup, then cheddar bread. All was well, right? So after the bread rose and was in the oven I figured I'd check on the crockpot of soup. The beans were still nearly rock hard. With an hour until supper.

I've been slowly turning a lot of worn out blue jeans and a too small denim vest into a Halloween costume. Other than the bleaching and dyeing I think seam ripping the old stuff apart is taking the longest. This will eventually be a neon punk, black light reactive dragon.

I like nature pins, particularly bugs and frogs, writing things, autism things, and other assorted shiny things. Not a big fan of rhinestones, though. Here's some of my other hat pins. I'm working on adding more colorful hats to my collection, so I require more pins!

I recently dyed a hat very neon pink (it's brighter in person). Now I need more pins. I usually get my pins from antique stores but haven't been able to get out as much lately. I don't want mass produced ones. If you make pins (or clean up & sell antique ones) could you drop a link and/or photos?

I just processed a batch today and started a new one. I don't strain mine, I like to keep the pepper chunks, kinda like thick salsa. Also apparently you can use the brine to make spicy salt? This is my first time trying but it smells great. Mix with sea salt and dry in the oven.

Just don't smoke them all or they won't ferment. I don't know if you have a smoker in all your neat kitchen doodads but I use this. I've fit a whole turkey in it. Did have to finish it in the oven though because it only gets so hot. Sorry about the weird alt text the app won't let me see it.

Forbidden soup. I can never find good quality clothes I can afford and like. But what I can do is find some ill fitting, good quality, ugly clothes at a thrift shop and dye them bright pink before I modify them. I am going to be *bright*.

After a day and a half, a bunch of smelly chemicals including a truly horrendous am ount of bleach, I got a bunch of worn out and non fitting clothes white. Which means: 1) I can dye them loud colors for Halloween costumes for cheap 2) I am about to do really silly things with my every day clothes

I've got tomatoes in the dehydrator, elderberries in the freezer, and cored peppers in the smoker to start fermenting tomorrow. The muscadines are starting to ripen, and I'm thinking about homemade vinigar. Gardens are fun and I am tired.

After years of trying to find the tree, 1.5 years of babying a little 1, & finding a relatively big 1 earlier this year...I have finally tasted a Little Miss Figgy fig (the bigger ones here). It tastes like caramel. I have a caramel tree. I only have a few this year. Can't wait until it gets big.

Jam has occurred. Fortunately it's freezer jam so I don't have to can it. I did fill up another big jar out of these when I read about there needing to be more headroom for freezing. They're below the shoulder now and another half gallon jar is full.

While watering my houseplants it occurred to me I've never shown them off here. A good deal are vacationing outside, so you might see why I have a ban on buying indoor plants. I grew the cacti from seeds! One of the 1st plants I ever grew. They're about 15 years old & I have NO idea how to repot.

A large pot of medium cactus with a hand for scale. I THINK most are fishhook or similar. One is long and tall with an arm. They're all supported by knitting needles because SOMEpuppy knocked over the pot during zoomies.

A different size table is more plants and grow lights. Most are succulents with a begonia in the back. There's a large aloe that probably needs reporting. Its probably 12 years old.

A zz plant (that, surprise, probably needs repotting, it's going to be a busy fall) dominates the table. A begonia has its leaves dramatically pressed against the window despite many perfectly good grow lights.

While tracking down copies of my sister's childhood stuffies I found one of mine that had somehow stayed perfectly in my memory for 32 years. Behold Popples! It turns inside out into a flower.

As far as I can find it has no identifying info. (Also please ignore the dust, the last 2 years have been...unstable.) Tractor supply doesn't usually have little fiddly hardware where I am, and I don't have an Ace in town. There is an independent hardware store but they've struck out so far.
