Second is sustained investment in new, deeply affordable housing projects. That investment is not possible with our current revenue limitations. That's why we need to #TaxTheRich!

This is still missing two important pieces (which are in ILGA's corner). First is to #LiftTheBan on rent regulation at the state level so municipalities can pass meaningful legislation to prevent displacement.

These protections for tenants also complement the regulatory modernizations in the #BUILD plan. When we talk about needing an all-of-the-above approach to addressing the housing crisis, this is what we're talking about!

These protections for tenants are HUGE! The RLTO has been an important backstop these past few decades but these modernizations are long overdue.

This sort of local, block by block community care is just as crucial for building a Chicago that works for everyone as broader electoral and policy change. I hope to see many of you there and around the neighborhood this summer!

Back in Uptown, I biked passed where I had passed out flyers earlier in the day for North Uptown Neighbors Association's upcoming neighborhood cleaning day. I had several conversations with neighbors who were excited for the opportunity to take care of each other and our neighborhood.
A selfie of me with the NUNA flyer. The cleanup day will be next Sunday, May 17th at 10am at the intersection of Argyle and Magnolia.

Afterward, I took a long bike ride up the lakeshore path back to Uptown. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, though the wind was in my face the whole time. (I've heard the wind gradients called "Dutch hills" in the past, but I think we can also call them "Chicago hills" as the windy city.)

We talked to and collected signatures from hundreds of neighbors in support of this initiative. People are excited to see more investment in mental health care!

In 2026, we're also experiencing intense attacks on our immigrant communities, including resumed ICE raids where multiple of our neighbors were kidnapped yesterday. Today's march is an important reminder that immigrant rights are workers rights, and our struggles are one struggle.

This is sickening. "Conversion therapy" is abuse. That's why Illinois banned its use on minors a decade ago, and it's why it should be banned everywhere. For more information about the harms of so-called "conversion therapy", see: www.naswnc.org/page/BanConv...

You need two pieces of identification - one with your current address (can be a utility bill or lease) and one with your face (can be a driver's license or passport or active student id). You DO NOT have to have an Illinois ID as long as you have that proof of address.

Sunjay in Uptown @sunjayforillinois.com · 09/03/2026
Hi friends! I’ve had this conversation several times today with people who recently moved here, and it’s important to know: People can register same day at all early voting locations!
Take Two Forms of Identification
At least one form of ID showing your current address is needed. These may include but are not limited to:
• drivers license
• bank statement
• residence contract/lease
• utility bill
• State identification card number

I'm fighting for the people that make this neighborhood so great. We need stronger protections immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks and abortion access. We need better funding for housing, healthcare, public schools and public transit. And we can do that when corporations and billionaires pay their fair share.
