Just watched that Great Wall movie with Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal and I gotta say I'm impressed at how they didn't totally phone in it bc that movie was dumb as a wet paper bag full of rocks in about a thousand different ways.

I actually see that line as just establishing things in fiction I don't think it's referential I think it's just establishing that money was tight when this character was young. I do think the character represents someone else but regardless of who that is it is still a character.

Genuinely if a friend of mine told me that she wrote a love song about her new husband and it was all about how everybody hates her except for him and there was no mention of any positive traits of his other than he doesn't find her insufferable I would tell her to divorce him and go to therapy.
