I ran a few CPD sessions for my school on how Excel can make life easier as a teacher this week. We looked at practical solutions to real-life teacher problems. I've recorded them in case anyone finds them useful. (All the pupil data is made up.) www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... #ExcelToday

Are FE GCSE maths results falling because it is now possible to get through life doing no arithmetic at all? No cash, no cooking, Google maps, money left after bills calculated for you, no clocks

GCSE Mathematics: There’s quite the gap between the percentage of marks needed for a grade with AQA/Pearson and OCR/Eduqas, particularly at Foundation tier - they’re about one grade adrift. For example, 44% on F will get you a grade 4 with OCR - but that would score a Grade 2 with AQA or Edexcel 1/4

Short term could the government fund FE and schools bus year 10s and 11s over to their local college to study level 1/2 car mechanics, e sports, horticulture etc that already exist? Take the pressure off schools and have better facilities.

Accurate 😅 (although they missed 21, which was the scourge of my early teaching career!) xkcd.com/3184/ #MathsToday
An XKCD comic in the usual black outline cartoon style on a white background.

[A banner is hanging from the ceiling with a large line of text above a smaller one:]
Mathematical society
2025 meeting
[Below the banner there are four people, three of them are standing close together to the left with Hairbun leftmost addressing Cueball and Megan who is looking at her. Ponytail is standing to the far right next to a whiteboard, and is using a marker to circle in the last number on the board.]
Hairbun: Any other new developments from the year to cover before we wrap?
Cueball: Oh, the teens picked a new funny number.
Megan: Aww, I'm glad to hear they're still doing that.
Ponytail: I'll add it to the list.
[The board contains two columns of numbers, with the first having a text behind it, thus covering both columns. The last number is the new one circled in by Ponytail. From top in reading order they are:]
23 (skidoo!)
42 1,337
69 58,008
420 6 7
