We have such gorgeous regional dances, and when they’re mixed with modern influences, it’s really cool. There is zero need to appropriate Black American style. Especially when a fuckton of South Asians are anti-Black.

I managed to watch Best of the Best in between internet outages, and while I got all choked-up at a few parts that hit hard, my biggest takeaway is that desis need to reckon with how much of our current dance culture has been stolen from hip-hop and Black musicians and performers. Just like KPop.

This does not mean I’m going back there, aside from the occasional TV-related tweets and check-ins with old friends. I am fine with Bluesky and Threads.

So I’m over on Twitter for the sole purpose of livetweeting as I watch Chicago Med, and it seems quieter?! I glanced at the For You feeds for both of my accounts and they seem cleaner. Hunh. Threads also seems to be enjoying the bot-free life.

Decided to try and watch Remarkably Bright Creatures after a gummy. Which has resulted in me observing that I am three degrees of separation from this octopus. I know someone who was on a show with Colm Meaney and Colm is in this movie with a cephalopod. And also Sally Field.

Yes, I AM a person who'll reply to a "My roommate's making vegetarian shepherds pie" text with "How does he know that the shepherds were all vegetarians?" I'm aware the real name of the dish has an apostrophe. So really it's one vegetarian shepherd who's probably vegan and mad about mislabeling.

I’ve seen Christians insist that railing against “demonic practices” is “leading people to the cross.” Why are you trying to lead folks to the thing that Jesus got killed on?! If he died on it so other people wouldn’t suffer, wouldn’t you lead them *away*?

So many allegedly Christian people believe that Jesus cares more about kids’ Halloween costumes, yoga, and jewelry than about global warfare, world hunger, and disease. How weak is your savior if Satan can best him via Iron Man costume? Why is your deity fighting that instead of stopping genocide?

This pinned post has been updated! Banned Books Week annoys me because so much attention comes to this crucial constitutional issue for only 5-7 days. In an era when our freedoms are being attacked and books–and the people they represent–are disappearing, it's necessary to fight every single day.

My internet cut out, so no TV. I decided to play Solitaire. While stoned. I actually won two games…out of seven. And I caught myself murmuring “Strange things are happening here.” Which I immediately followed with “How much stranger would it be?” Appropriate, since we are basically in Panem.

This week's #FridayFling prompt is "attract," and my offering is from Tikka Chance on Me. My award-winning 2018 not-really-a-biker-romance novella, it was written on a whim and became my most popular story. Trucker and Pinky still bring me joy. #romancelandia Buy links: books2read.com/u/mKKrNv
A square promo graphic with the Friday Fling hashtag and prompt at the top and my Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder byline at the bottom. The following excerpt text is in between: But it was more than just sex. This thing between us. This thing that had twisted me up with grief and then drowned me in so much relief that he was okay. I had feelings for him. Bigger than attraction, bigger than lust. They started with ‘like’ and ended with…heartbreak. Fuck. He was going to hurt me. I was going to hurt me. And still I’d decided to follow his bland brown car to yet another motel room.
The Shady Lane was about a quarter-mile past the Pineview Inn, off a stretch that included several gas stations and what had, when I was a kid, been a Ponderosa steakhouse. Now it was a Chinese buffet. The whole area was kind of transient. Nobody kept track of who was staying where or for how long. It was perfect for drug deals, for late-night assignations, and for government agents who’d just killed off their identity.
I was fast becoming a connoisseur of eastern Indiana motels. If the business classes didn’t work out, maybe I could write a travel guide: Best Places to Hook Up—Your Map to No-Tells, Motels, and Hotels Run by Patels.

#FridayFling "attract" From The Glowing Life of Leeann Wu, a novel about a 40-something midwife whose hands suddenly and mysteriously begin to glow.
Creased paper background. Text: It didn’t help that last week when I tentatively asked my longtime doctor about the sleeplessness and the strange glow, she’d told me I was likely entering perimenopause and everyone reported weird symptoms. She’d referred me to an ophthalmologist to check my eyes and muttered something about hot flushes. “Given your profession, I’m sure you know all about this.”

In my professional opinion, she could suck it. I was pretty sure hormonal temperature dysregulation wasn’t responsible for incandescent digits.

But I swallowed my outrage. I made the eye appointment, upped my Vitamin D, kept staying away from men, especially the young, attractive ones, and tried very hard not to glow.
