Sarah’s reaction isn’t surprising. We all know the criteria she uses & that Reform’s constant two-tier refrain reveals rather more about how they see the world than how our police & courts do This incident should have been a much bigger wake-up call to all of us. Instead it was too often downplayed

I am 62 and barely remember the bad old times. Got some days off school and got to read comics by candlelight. I do remember the 1980s though. Miners strikes, deindustrialisation, increased police powers and income and wealth inequality surging dramatically.

Not just young people. The flats would also suit older people who could downsize, live closer to major hospitals and free up family size accommodation

Much as we love bookshops, they need more than love to keep going. A bookshop can be the centre of a whole community. Bookshops support authors; organize events. A thriving bookshop teaches the next generation that literacy matters. So don't just love your bookshop: actually buy books there.

I went in December and one of the tourists in my group complained that the paths were slippy because of the ice. The guide looked at him and said 'at least you have shoes. The people murdered here didn't'. No more complaints after that.

Happy for anyone to vote for to leave the United Kingdom. So long as they pay for NHS services in the same way foreign nationals do. Also we should impose massive tariffs on Yorkshire Tea, marmite and hobnobs

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston: "That's what the lifeboat does. It saves lives at sea. That's its job." "And this is an international duty. Everyone who goes to sea knows, in the event of someone being in difficulty, you go to their assistance." The abuse the RNLI have faced is a disgrace.

As well as being wrong about Britain “taking them over” regarding the Falklands in 1982, when we liberated them from an invasion, the BBC might like to note Trump was 35 at the time He’s stretching the definition of young boy way, way past breaking point His memory of the time clearly is very off
Screenshot of BBC article about Donald Trump’s comments about the Falklands, which he said on his visit to Dublin. Both the claim he was a boy at the time of the Falklands War and that the British “took it over” rather than liberate them from an illegal invasion are false

The text reads:

“Earlier, while answering questions about a Iran, Gaza and a potential united Ireland, Donald Trump was also asked if he spoke to the British Prime Minister Andy Burnham about the Falkland Islands.
"Here we go again," says Trump as he recalls being a young boy when the Falklands War happened.
He says the UK was "a different country at that time" and claims "they went in and they took it over".”

Contrary to their public statement, HOPE not hate can exclusively reveal that Kent Police were tipped off about the Patriot Platform mobilisation – and seemingly did not act on the information.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

We should build social housing on golf courses. Normally have good road access, lakes and a good water supply. The clubhouse could be converted to a small supermarket and pub.

It seems like an exaggeration but I was massively affected by the death of Dolly Parton. She has been a friend to the downtrodden and left behind. She lifted people up. So to honour her humanitarianism I made a donation to her Imagination Library. Here is the link imaginationlibrary.com/uk/

Well it has only taken Capita six months since I provided them with an online code to activate the power of attorney for Mum’s civil service pension to tell me the code’s expired (of course it has: they last 30 days) and I need to fill in a bunch more forms. I despair.

I think this is a reasonable idea. Pubs (should have) sober adults working in them who can intervene if the kids get out of hand. Graveyards, parks and canal banks dont have any supervision
