Something once quiet has been given permission to come fully into the open. Cruelty. It's now entertainment, political strategy, and social currency. It's everywhere. In the treatment of immigrants. LGBTQ+ folks. In public encounters. In the viciousness unleashed by people hiding behind keyboards.

The cruelty was always present, but since 2016, it has been granted permission, given a platform, and rewarded with power.

AI often produces clean, competent sentences, but they tend to sound like everyone else’s clean, competent sentences. Your phrasing matters. Your rhythm matters. Your natural way of explaining something matters. www.authorallies.com/blog/ai-in-w...

One of the biggest mistakes writers make with AI is starting with a prompt instead of a thought. AI builds from patterns. It predicts what usually comes next. And predictability does not generally lead to strong writing.

Here’s a simple way to think about AI use: If the AI is doing the thinking, it’s too much. If the AI is supporting your thinking, it’s appropriate. The difference is intention and awareness.
120
Sue Collier @suecollier.bsky.social · 15/04/2026
One of the clearest signs of heavy AI use is writing that feels flat. It says the right things, but it doesn’t say them in a way that feels distinctly human. Your voice is what connects you to readers. If that disappears, your work loses its value.
120
Sue Collier @suecollier.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
AI is not going anywhere. And ethical use of AI in writing doesn’t mean avoiding it altogether. It means the ideas, voice, and structure of the work remain the writer’s. AI should support your writing; it should not replace it.

by Amanda Gorman
They say she is no more, That there her absence roars, Blood-blown like a rose.
Iced wheels flinched & froze.
Now, bare riot of candles, Dark fury of flowers, Pure howling of hymns.
If for us she arose,
Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief, Crouches our power,
The howl where we begin,
Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater Of the worst of what we've been.
Change is only possible, & all the greater, When the labour
& bitter anger of our neighbors
Is moved by the love
* better angels of our nature.
