I think that there's a lot to that. They raised prices at the onset of pandemic lock-downs, and just kept going. Plus collusion to price fix on top of it. Artificial shortages, etc.

16th of Owltober! A GHOW was caught in the net of a high school batting cage. Upon rescue and examination by Sarvey Wildlife Care Center she was thankfully found uninjured and soon fit for release. A Great Horned Owl with feet ensnared in a net is cloaked in a white towel and held by a Sarvey rehabber indoors. One plumicorn is flat, the other a little puffy, and both are tucked under the towel. The owl has girthy talons the size of door handles, not that you'd want to handle them. The rehabber wears a Sarvey-branded tee, and with one blurple-gloved hand holds the owl's leg; the other is unseen, presumably behind the towel and scooched under the owl's bum. The owl looks like she's been through a struggle, with narrow pupils like she's possessed and Tubular Bells is about to play. But we all know the spookiest thing here is Nets Left Out After Dark. Which segues to picture no.2, the 'before' shot . . .

Prior to being rescued, a dark feathery shape is caught in the string mesh of a high school batting cage. The Great Horned Owl is silhouetted and backlit by early morning sun, legs high and wings low, and, despite being upside down, she's able to turn her head to camera with a level head. The pipe-frame cage has the classic diamond-shaped chain link on the outer walls and a similar shape for the inner string net, although with the wide depth of field it all kind of blends into one. The owl has an exasperated face and slightly drooped upper eyelids, as if to say "Well, well. Look who decided to show up."

A Great Grey Owl is draped in a white towel in a clinical setting. A vet tech in royal blue scrubs holds the owl behind, while another clinician reaches over the owl's pronounced facial disk with a black glove to inspect feathers the way someone might stretch their arm over the backrest of a park bench. GGOW's eyes seem to be mismatched: one is amber and the other pale yellow, which might be due to the lighting, or a sign of eye damage. A single talon pokes up from a mess of feathers around the torso, looking like the owl is flipping the bird, so to speak, and I can't decipher what arrangement of feet would even make that possible (thankfully it's not due to the injury). The owl's stance points left of frame, and though strigiform eyes have very little movement in their sockets, this individual is doing a great job of giving side-eye to camera.

Upon rescue, the GGOW is perched on the passenger seat of a car looking at the photographer with astonishment. Red light from the stereo/radio unit bathes the owl and car interior with a pink glow on otherwise cold tones of blue and grey.
