Have a poem I guess
On looking into my ancient secondhand
Larousse, bought 25 years ago at a flea market, because l couldn't remember the
French for owl
The thing that made you good has made
you tawdry
The nuns foresaw Twin Peaks you know
In the 80s they taught Ruth
Les petits hiboux avec les yeux lumineuxI'm not sure how to love anything that is not a forest
Forest forest, gut forest, coral forest, lichens after rain, bromeliads
Everything is a forest under a microscope
But without my glasses on I can't see the trees
You can hear the owls though
Paul tells me he's finally heard the she-owl, or is she early this hot year Shellac, material of early 78s that made the musical world go round, is so called because it's made from the secretions of
of the female lac beetle
What she then lacks, extracted, circulates blues & jazz & tango for white shell-likes
Listen I am writing this as the wheels onthe bus do not
As we wait and wait for latex and fossil fuels and conflict minerals
Like saps we walk under trees brittle with heat that drop branches as much as leaves
There are no more bank branches, branch lines, brachiopods
The owl hoots on the abandoned railroad line
That I've walked a hundred times stumbling on conglomerate and buried tracks and bricks
Comfrey discomfiting as it composts into autumn that heap smell old heat still humidly hanging
A branch almost cracked by thirstWe nearly lost this, Paul says, they wanted to make it a through road
We fought for the dirt and weeds and ferns
The efts and tits and bats and burnets
Green alkanet is pink pinking in the regimented sunset
Lines in a document old railroad tracks nature abhors straightness
Plant all the same trees in even rows & you get paper sure but no bug life no rhizomes
Things need to be less ambitious
Things need a bit of difference
Yes that's lunch on my shirt I was reading about fungi
Like everyone does now, or will, sooner or later, be read by them

Yet another shitty unfunny Ben Jennings editorial cartoon belittling sex workers while also diminishing the threat of the far right.
A cartoon of a car parked in the dark by a road sign with directions to RAF Fairfield. The driver has a speech bubble that says "Hello police, there are suspicious men in balaclavas near my farm. I fear they could be terrorists, far right thugs or staging a Bonnie Blue event!"

Three times in three weeks, the Guardian opinion column has decided that the funniest thing it can come up with is depicting a fascist cis male leader (Farage x 2, Trump x 1) in drag: as a sex worker in Farage's case; as a beauty pageant queen in Trump's. This is rank transmisogyny & whorephobia.

Lollllllll they really came at an actual curator who has published a book on film curating as an ETHICAL, RESEARCH-BASED PRACTICE OF CARE FOR MEMORY IN THE FACE OF TRAUMATIC GRIEF to say that using a bingo machine is like curation. Algorithm-pilled pick-me wannabe.
Quote post by The Data Therapist in the B!
@datatherapist.bsky.social
This topic
is more nuanced than "they
wrote their own story" vs "they pressed the record button". The act of using AINlike this is very similar to the act of curation. If you believe curating has a creative aspect, you have to cope with what aspects are creative in using Al like this. Responding to original post by

To me it's like saying "some people recorded
a film off TV on a VHS = some people made
their own film." Sure, dear, you pressed a button, you're very special.

Love that my farewell to Edinburgh comes from Margaret Tait, with a little history of urban sound art, courtesy of the wonderful MT100 project.
Stone pillar by the entrance to North Bridge opposite the Market Street entrance to Edinburgh Waverley station. Level with the top of the arched entrance to the staircase, about 3 metres up, theres a blue plaque, part of the MT100 Margaret Tait trail.Slightly blurry close up of the Margaret Tait plaque at the entrance to North Bridge. The text on the plaque reads: "Margaret Tair
1918-1999
FILMMAKER & POET
As with the work of many 16mm filmmakers, Margaret Tait's soundtracks were recorded separately. Tait made great efforts to capture the precise sounds needed for her inventive soundtracks and often kept detailed notes of the recordings made.
12 Jan, 4.30-5pm, 1963: record: startings under the North Bridge on a Sunday afternoon + a ittle traffic and not very much other nolse.

No NYer subscription? Just check the guy's Wikipedia page to see his "dark legacy" is.... oh, tons of his peer scientists saying child rape is ok if you do science "good".
Screenshot from a Wikipedia page. Text reads:

In 1996, Gajdusek was charged with child molestation, and spent 12 months in prison after being convicted. He subsequently entered a self-imposed exile in Europe, where he died a decade later. Despite Gajdusek openly admitting to molesting boys and his approval of incest, he still received support from many peers advocating for clemency who felt his crimes were lessened by his scientific contributions.
His papers are held at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland and at the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

OK Odyssey stans, Monique Wittig has entered the discourse (disc-horse)? From THE LITERARY WORKSHOP, trans. Ann Jefferson @versobooks.bsky.social
held chapter on the gnomon.
In The Literary Workshop, Monique Wittig presents the "Trojan Horse' as 'a machine made of words that is doubtless sufficiently unique in history (literary history) for it to be permissible to use it here as an analogy within the space occupied by writing. And she goes on to add:
Or for it to be like the gnomon, a measuring instrument, which is said to have been the first fashioner of concepts. But a gnomon that is neither square nor any other shape, because its properties are abstract before being concrete. At any rate, I am placing this machine here on the page in order to point to its maker in the first instance, because this is how I see writers, as makers of Trojan horses.

It's We Are Lady Parts! An all female Muslim punk band. They are all wearing formal black outfits, over white shirts, and dark sunglasses, referencing a shot from Reservoir Dogs. This is unbelievable! Also interesting to note that the three egregious examples chosen are all fabricated or misattributed quotes from women. And handing the final word to the author found guilty of wrongdoing takes the cake. The book shd be pulped, not promoted.
In his statement, Mr. Rosenbaum said that if the episode "serves as a warning about the risks of A.I.-assisted research and verification, that is why I wrote the book."
"These A.I. errors do not, in fact, diminish the larger questions that the book raises about truth, trust and A.I. and its impact on society, democracy and editorial, he added.
