Two new works in progress. I recently finished a couple, so I think I was down to two. Had to add these to get the levels up…

Somehow this reminded me of a Soviet joke.

A man is sent on a business trip to a nearby town. To make his early morning meeting, he travels there on the preceding night. He arrives, checks in to his hotel and is shown a room which he will share with two other men. They have already arrived, so he greets them, they get out some snacks and drinks, the atmosphere is good.
After a while he gets tired and he decides to get some sleep. He lies in bed, but the other two have no plans on stopping. In fact, their speech is getting more and more liberal - the jokes are getting more and more dangerous.
Faced with the problem of not getting sleep any time soon and possibly getting in trouble for not reporting the now, frankly, subversive speech, he decides to scare them into stopping.
He gets up, goes to the lobby, finds a maid and asks her to bring him a cup of tea with lemon in exactly five minutes.
Then he goes back to the shared room, gets back in bed, and leans over to an electrical outlet beside it. “Comrade Major, could I trouble you for a cup of tea? And add a slice of lemon, if you don’t mind.”
This has the desired effect, as the two other occupants of the room go quiet. When shortly after that, the maid appears with his tea and the lemon, they turn white as the sheets they quickly retreat to.
Our man finishes his tea, closes his eyes and enjoys an uninterrupted night’s sleep.
The next morning he wakes up alone, gets ready for the day and goes to the lobby. He remarks to a hotel staffer that his roommates must’ve gotten up early. “They didn’t choose to, they were taken by the KGB,” she corrects him.
“What? I didn’t notice a thing. Why didn’t they take me too?”
“Comrade Major liked your joke with the tea very much.”
