his strengths: insight, business-savvy his weakness: inability to see how his decision will bite him in the ass a couple years down the line #WHA #WitchHatAtelier

first page of a sketchy comic featuring Qifrey and Oruggio from Witch Hat Atelier. in the first panel, Oruggio is pulling out his sheer silk cape out of a box on the table in front of him, a satisfied grin on his face. Qifrey, who is sitting opposite him, is asking, "You're aware this client is courting you, right?". Oruggio replies, "Duh", to which Qifrey responds with "And you're still going to accept this gift?"
in the second panel, Oruggio has lowered the cape as he stares at Qifrey with an unamused expression.

second page of the comic.
the first panel is entirely taken up by Oruggio's deadly serious face, his eyes shadowed, and a giant speech bubble containing his response. he says, "Qifrey. this is pure marshwood silk. their silkworms are lauded throughout Zozah for being the fattest most beautiful creatures in the
world that shit out fibers strong enough to be used in the construction of heavy machinery, and soft enough so as not to irritate the skin of a newborn baby. it must cost more than what they paid me for that commission in the first place." then he adds, "if i die early you can sell it off and all the girls will have enough money to start their own businesses."
in the second panel, Qifrey is still sitting at the table, one elbow propped up on it with his cheek resting in the palm of his hand. he says, "Oru, if you accept it she
will assume you're accepting her courtship." an out-of-frame Oruggio exclaims, "she can think we're married for all I care, as long as she keeps sending me these."
in the third panel we see a close-up of Qifrey's face. his tiny smile is accompanied by a thousand yard stare, and next to him in the imaginary space there is a cute piggy bank titled 'Misery' with a +1 speech bubble coming out of the slot. Oruggio continues, still out of frame, "Qifrey, i think they used real gold for this embroidery, holy smokes-"

redraw of everyone's favorite 'dad & the cat he didn't want' panel #WitchHatAtelier #WHA #Δ帽子

digital fan art of Oruggio and the Brushbug from Witch Hat Atelier, a semi-realistic re-draw of a panel from chapter 44. Oruggio is a young man of average build, with messy short straight black hair and an unkempt goatee. he is wearing his usual white shirt with billowing sleeves caught at the elbows with dark cording; there are burn scars scattered on his forearms and hands. the brushbug is a silly fluffy noodle creature that's mostly fur and huge eyes, with a tail that is twice as long as its body.
Oruggio is lying down on his stomach, propped up on his elbows, and razzling the hell out of the brushbug's tail while it's rolling around on the floor in front of him with its paws all akimbo. Oruggio is looking up with a beleaguered and unimpressed expression on his tired face, as if momentarily distracted from bothering the animal.

commission for @aceofbasedesires.bsky.social, who requested an illustration of one of the scenes in @violettressed.bsky.social's fic 'The Bone That Has No Marrow' (link in the replies)! #shadowgast

digital fanart of Essek and Caleb from Critical Role, illustrating a scene from "The Bone That Has No Marrow", a fanfiction by ao3 user VioletTressed. Essek is a young-looking dark elf with pale grayish-purple skin, shoulder-length wavy white hair, and small pointed ears. he is wearing a dark purple outfit that consists of a long-sleeved fitted turtleneck, a tunic with geometric pleating and wide shoulders, and dark leggings. Caleb is a human in his early forties, with light freckled skin and dark auburn chin-length hair and beard with streaks of white in them. he is dressed in a white collared shirt, the rest of his torso hidden under a blanket.
Essek is sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor against the side of a bed. there is a pillow in his lap, and Caleb's head is resting on it. one of Essek's palms is resting against Caleb's chest, while the other hand is hovering over Caleb's hair, just shy of touching. Essek's head is bent down, watching the sleeping Caleb with a tired and conflicted expression.
on top of the soft cheerful quilt on the bed behind them, there is a rigid supine figure covered with a white sheet. the night scene is illuminated by the gentle orange-yellow shine of a crystal set on a nearby nightstand, as well as a much more muted glow of luminescent tree fungi growing on one of the wooden beams supporting the wall. the shelves above the bed are full of various knick-knacks and containers, bunches of drying flowers suspended from the ceiling. a round window just above the bed overlooks some treetops and a slightly clouded grayish night sky.

i'm a big sucker for a diegetic piece of art/literature serving as a mirror to the story's characters, so naturally the illustration of the poem about a silverleaf tree falling in love with a star from chapter 47 of WHA *had* to be redrawn as Qifrey and Oru ✨🍃 #WitchHatAtelier #WHAMangaSpoilers

digital fan art of Qifrey and Oruggio from Witch Hat Atelier. it is based on an illustration featured in chapter 47 of the manga, wherein the Silver Leaf Tree is reaching up towards the Star, who is sailing the sky in a boat.
Qifrey is depicted as a thin and tall light-skinned person with short curly white hair; his fingers extend into long silver wood branches, similar to the Silver Leaf's fingers in the original illustration. he is dressed in a long flowing gray tunic with long wide sleeves and his signature plaited high collar, the fabric caught at the waist with a wide etched leather belt decorated with tassels. on his head, there is a circlet made of black leaves and long spikes.
Oru has an average build, light brown skin, short straight black hair and a short goatee. he is wearing a white toga-like tunic draped over one shoulder, leaving his arms bare and the burn scars on his hands and forearms visible. there is a wide tasseled blue sash around his waist, and, like Qifrey, Oru has a crown on his head, his shaped like a collection of stars.
the characters are placed facing each other, Qifrey on the right and Oru on the left and upside down. Qifrey is sitting on the gray branches of a silver wood tree, reaching with one hand for a star right next to Oru's chest; he is looking at it with wonder and quiet excitement. Oru is kneeling in a small boat, one arm raised and the hand placed on the end of an oar handle, which is standing vertically; the other arm is resting against his thigh. he is looking at Qifrey's face with a smile.
there is water around the boat, dyed pink and soft orange with the light of the star, the upside-down wave foaming and curling towards Qifrey, while the silver wood branches reach for Oru. behind the characters, the sky is a pale sunrise blue, with smaller stars and sea spray shimmering all around them.

a digital drawing of Jester Lavorre and her moorbounder Yarnball. Yarnball is sitting on her back legs and has her front paws around Jester's shoulder and back. Jester embraces Yarnball back.

one of the three tarot cards i associate with shadowgast, The Star 🌟 #shadowgast #CriticalRole #CriticalRoleFanArt

digital fanart of Caleb and Essek from Critical Role, based on The Star tarot card. it is styled like a painting done on tan canvas, with strips of unpainted canvas at the top and bottom. 'XVII' and 'The Star' are written in slanted cursive above and below the painting, respectively.
Essek and Caleb are in their garden, on their knees and hugging each other tightly. in front of them, there is a low strawberry plant, many berries visible from under the green leaves. next to them, on the ground, there is a ceramic jug and a watering can, on their sides as if discarded hastily in a rush to embrace, with water flowing from them onto the dark soil. behind the characters, trees and a cozy cottage house are visible in the background, and around them seven glowing motes are floating in the air.
both Caleb and Essek are depicted barefoot and wearing summer clothes: a darker well-tailored ensemble of short trousers and a short-sleeved shirt for Essek and a more rustic and earth toned combination of shortened slacks and a white shirt with rolled up sleeves for Caleb. Essek has dark gardening gloves on, with a subtle rose print on them, while Caleb's hands are naked. the soles of their feet and their forearms are smudged with dirt.
Essek is resting his chin on Caleb's shoulder with his eyes closed, while Caleb is slumped into his partner. his face is not visible, but judging from the position of his hair, he is hiding his face in Essek's shoulder. a tiny sliver of negative space between them is catching the setting sun behind them, and the filtering sunlight is creating a large glowing four-pointed flare over the darkened figures.

A sketchy painting of the female dwarf wizard Murray Mag'nesson from Critical Role. Murray is casting a glowing spell. We see her from below: her long wave hair whipping with the power of her magic, the rings of light emanating from her hands, the glow reflecting on her braided beard and her broad-brimmed hat. She's smiling confidently at something off in the distance. She is in black and white, but the background behind her is picked out in rich oranges and magentas, and it looks a little bit like she is on stage.

A sketchy painting of Gale, a light-skinned human man, leaning down to kiss the temple of Mayhew, a darker-skinned gnomish man with shadowy veins growing over half his face. In this image, we see that he is also very loved, just as he is.

finally finished a painting i've been cooking in my mind for a few years! shadowgast as The Devil, one of my favorite tarot cards and one of the three cards i associate with their relationship #CriticalRole #CriticalRoleFanArt #shadowgast

a painting of Critical Role characters Essek Thelyss and Caleb Widogast, based on the Rider-Waite Tarot's The Devil. it is styled like a square painting on a vertically oriented tan canvas, with narrow unpainted strips above and below it. a looping leaning script reads "XV" above and "The Devil" below.
Essek is a dark elf with gray-lavender skin and short white hair, dressed in elegant long dark robes and a silvery metal mantle piece, with the breastplate shaped like a beetle's back and long spikes curving off of his shoulders, radiating from his neck.
Caleb is a light-skinned ginger human, with messy chin-length hair and a beard, wearing a gray tunic with a brown leather coat over it, a thick scarf wrapped around his shoulders. his spell book is just slightly visible at his side.
the characters are facing each other, with Essek standing on the left and Caleb on the right. their right hands are raised between them, hovering under and over a floating hourglass that Essek is offering to Caleb; the violet sand in it is equally distributed between the top and the bottom halves and is not flowing down. Essek has his chin raised with a cool expression of confidence, while Caleb is looking at the hourglass with a deeply conflicted face, his eyebrows furrowed and eyes shining. Caleb's left arm down at his side is engulfed in orange flames.
above them is the dodecahedron shape of a Beacon, pale gray and iridescent; the pentagonal plane facing the viewer is oriented with one of the corners pointing straight down. six silvery threads weave around it, intersecting at nine shining points, one thread each passing behind Essek's and Caleb's heads, and one each wrapping loosely around them. their figures, dark purple and brown, illuminated by the faint glow of the hourglass and the flame, are silhouetted against a much lighter gray and overcast light spilling from tall pointed arches behind them.

*draws cartoons like one of your live action movies* i'm still and forever on that Kryn Drow Are Bug Elves train, so i absolutely had to redraw that beautiful shot with my version of kryn armor! #CriticalRoleFanArt #CriticalRole #MightyNein

a semi-realistic painterly re-draw of a still from Mighty Nein Animated, depicting Caleb Widogast kneeling in the foreground and looking up at Essek Thelyss, who has just landed on a pile of debris further into the composition, his silhouette stark against the night sky.
Caleb is a light-skinned ginger human with messy chin-length hair and a beard, wearing a dark cloak, a patched-up coat underneath it and a long scarf. he is mostly turned away from the viewer, but surprise is clear on his face. Essek is an elf, which is apparent from his long pointed ears, but his body is otherwise obscured. he is depicted wearing dark shiny armor, organic and insectoid in its design. the helmet looks like the face of a cricket, with large glowing almond-shaped eye holes and spiky horns reminiscent of a stag beetle's. the breastplate looks like a beetle's elytra, and the slightly translucent iridescent double cape whipping in the wind behind him appears to be similar to an earwig's fan-like wings. the characters are framed with the remains of a destroyed wall and the floor above, and the night's starry sky looks light in comparison to their shaded figures.

#MightyNein animated is almost here!!! I didn't feel like colouring this drawing before, but it felt right to finally do that for this occasion. Also I don't think a lot of people noticed that their heads form a 9 before, so I made it really obvious this time lol #criticalrole #criticalrolefanart

A digitally coloured black ink drawing of the Mighty Nein, from Critical Role. The nine of them are laying down, their heads together in the shape of a nine. From the middle going outward to the left is Caleb, who has Caduceus head on his shoulder, and Essek's head on his belly. His hand rests on Essek's head. To his left is Veth, who's lying on her side, her body facing Caleb, her arm hooked in Caleb's. She's looking to her left, at Jester. Jester smiles back at Veth, and is hooking arms with Fjord. Fjord is fist bumping Beau, Beau grins at Fjord and holds Yasha's arm. Yasha is laughing with Kingsley, who's got his hand on her chest, palm up. Caduceus is to his left, and seems to be asleep, with a wide smile on his face. He leans against Essek, who looks up at Caleb, and clutches his hands to his chest.

The same as the previous image, but it is darkened a little and a stripe of light brightens each of their eyes, so that it forms the number nine.

A painting of a curly-haired male gnome looking into a mirror with despair. One of his eyes is a glowing glass eye, and the other eye is ink-dark and monstrous. Dark veins snake out from his monstrous eye, like a corruption that's slowly spreading. He is touching his face as if seeing it for the first time and realizing the depths to which he has sunk - and that there's no going back. The lighting is moody, dark, and cool-toned.

Essek and Caleb at Jester and Fjord's wedding party, k-i-s-s-i-n-g #CriticalRole #CriticalRoleFanArt #CriticalRoleSpoilers #shadowgast

digital fan art of Essek and Caleb from Critical Role, at Jester and Fjord's wedding, sitting on a bench and kissing.
Essek is a young-looking slender dark elf with light lavender skin and shoulder-length white hair, which is artfully curled and pinned back. Caleb is a light-skinned thin human in his early forties, with auburn chin-length wavy hair and a full beard.
they are both dressed in formal clothing, cream and light pink to match the colors Jester had picked for her wedding. Essek is wearing a silk shirt with bishop sleeves and a straight neckline that exposes his neck and a wide pearl choker; he also has slacks on, short enough to reveal his boots with metal toe-tips, as well as a coat made of thick matte fabric, with wide geometric shoulders and layered hanging sleeves. it is caught at the waist with a wide sash, the coat's two floral frog closures open. Caleb is dressed in form-fitting pants tucked into white boots, a leather strap around one of his thighs. he has a long-sleeved shirt on under a light pink sleeveless coat made of delicate floral brocade. there is a large white flower tucked behind his ear. both of them are wearing a bit of make-up: Essek has white lipstick on his bottom lip, and Caleb's eyes are accentuated with fiery red eyeshadow.
they are sitting on a bench outside, leaning into each other, Essek placing a kiss on the corner of Caleb's mouth. Essek's left hand is guiding Caleb's chin towards him with a delicate finger, while his right is resting in Caleb's left. there is a flowering branch above them, soft pink petals lying on the white cobbled stones beneath their feet. the ocean is visible behind them, the setting sun shining right behind the couple's heads, illuminating them in warm orange glow.
