Officer Scott strikes again, redux. Mayor Brandon Scott loves policing and the surveillance state reinforcing yt supremacy at the expense of Black and brown people, most especially **immigrants**. Baltimore City is complicit with federal ops no matter what the "sanctuary city" rhetoric tells you
Mayor Brandon Scott voted to approve the Axon contract as a member of the Board of Estimates. ALPRs are part of Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s longer-term budget plans for the city.

Scott released a 10-year financial plan in December. It included modernizing traffic control and parking enforcement using ALPR technology, though it didn’t mention using the cameras for other policing purposes. The new Axon deal could be a significant boost of BPD’s existing license plate reader technology. More than a quarter of Maryland’s one billion ALPR scans in 2024 happened in the city.

I appreciate the Beat and @maddioneill.bsky.social's reporting in this piece re: the use of copaganda to justify criminalization and rights violations of children baltimorebeat.com/baltimores-n...
Black teenagers who gather in Fells Point and other affluent waterfront neighborhoods on summer nights have long been a fixation of the city’s conservative media outlets, which have reported on the new checkpoints without raising questions about their impact on residents’ constitutional rights. Sensationalizing crime that happens in predominantly white areas of the city and highlighting offenses committed by young people — regardless of data showing declining youth crime — is part of a well-worn playbook designed to stoke fear and push for harsh punitive responses from city and state officials.

Genocide was a key issue for voters (incl. in 6 swing states) who voted Biden into office but declined to vote for Harris. www.imeupolicyproject.org/postelection... If Kamala appealed to unrepresented progressive voters instead of courting the Liz Cheneys and conservative voters she would've won.
29% of voters nationally who voted for Biden in 2020 and cast a ballot for someone besides Kamala Harris in 2024 say “ending Israel’s violence in Gaza” was the top issue affecting their vote choice, with the economy a close second at 24%.When Biden 2020 voters cast a ballot for someone besides Harris in 2024 were asked “Which one of the following issues was MOST important in deciding your vote?” they selected:

29% - Ending Israel’s violence in Gaza
24% - The economy
12% - Medicare and Social Security
11% - Immigration and border security
10% - Healthcare
9% - Abortion policy
5% - Don’t knowBy a more than three-to-one margin, Biden 2020 voters who did not vote for Harris say they would have been more likely to have voted for Harris if she “pledged to break from President Biden's policy toward Gaza by promising to withhold additional weapons to Israel” rather than less likely.

More likely - 36%
Less likely - 10%
Make no difference - 54%Even among Biden 2020 voters who did vote for Harris in battleground states, voters by a seven-to-one margin say they would have been more enthusiastic in their support if Harris “pledged to break from President Biden's policy toward Gaza by promising to withhold additional weapons to Israel” rather than less enthusiastic.

More enthusiastic - 35%
Less enthusiastic - 5%

I mean, Tech for Palestine estimates ~47,000+ killed during Biden's term. Kamala could have broken with Biden at any time. When/where has Kamala called for an end to the genocide, or even called it a genocide since? data.techforpalestine.org I also don't dispute Trump's many harms and never have 👍
On Palestine Datasets, a data visualization shows an estimate of 47,724 killed between Oct. 7, 2023 and Jan. 19, 2025 (Day 471), the last day of Biden's presidency.

To be clear the definition of genocide per the Genocide Convention does not include a minimum threshold for # victims killed in its 5 elements... www.ohchr.org/en/instrumen... Look up what Ben Gvir publicly states re Palestinians and honestly try to tell me Israel doesn't act with genocidal intent
Article II
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Where do I say that in my post? Explain where and how?
Harris, who said she wanted the US to have "the most lethal military in the world", who materially supported genocide, who historically aligned herself with US imperialism and racial capitalism, whose party used its institutional power to unilaterally stifle popular leftist policies. Shut up lol

In other words, just because the paint is peeling off your walls and there is a blaring sound going off in your ears doesn’t mean that the blaring sound caused the paint to peel. Your house is on fire, causing both paint to peel and the smoke alarms to go off.

Which, frankly, happens to be a wonderful analogy for what it’s like to have RFK Jr. in charge of public health.

Disagreement over extent/severity of enforcement ≠ de facto open borders. Esp when Biden roughly matched or even exceeded enforcement metrics under Trump 1.0. If we're not talking freedom of movement across lines drawn in the sand, idk what else I'd call "OB" www.migrationpolicy.org/article/bide...
The 1.1 million deportations since the beginning of fiscal year (FY) 2021 through February 2024 (the most recent data available) are on pace to match the 1.5 million deportations carried out during the four years President Donald Trump was in office. These deportations are in addition to the 3 million expulsions of migrants crossing the border irregularly that occurred under the pandemic-era Title 42 order between March 2020 and May 2023—the vast majority of which occurred under the Biden administration. Combining deportations with expulsions and other actions to block migrants without permission to enter the United States, the Biden administration’s nearly 4.4 million repatriations are already more than any single presidential term since the George W. Bush administration (5 million in its second term).

Rationalists shut uppp and stop simping for billionaires. Props to Abigail Vân Neely for this genuinely entertaining @missionlocal.org piece on the Billionaires' March tho missionlocal.org/2026/02/sf-m...
“It is the intention of journalists to lie, which is why we need to not do anything to the journalists themselves, but we need to simply remove them as a class,” Annie said. “Just like Germany does to the extremist organizations.” Other methods of communication would come up to spread the word, Annie replied. Billionaires were just that great.

“People are just jealous that they are poorer and weaker and uglier,” she said. “We are beautiful. We’re smart. We’re strong. … We are supporting the billionaires, here.”

"Under the initiative, the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police will conduct proactive enforcement in high-risk areas, determined by data from the Baltimore Police Department and the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center. The MDEC Odyssey File & Serve (MD's e-filing system for the court system) portal dashboard displays an "Error" page which reads, "An error occurred while processing your request." A red box in the top right shows "Internal Server Error" overlaid over part of the interface menu.

Sen. Alsobrooks yet again failing the don’t-defend-genocide challenge @alsobrooks.senate.gov Hiding behind the hostages 600+ days later, really?
An email from Senator Angela Alsobrooks regarding a request to stop supplying arms to Israel reads:

June 5, 2025

Dear [REDACTED],

Thank you for contacting me about humanitarian aid in Gaza. Your concerns are important to both me and my team as we work tirelessly to serve the people of Maryland.

On October 7th, 2023, Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israel, resulting in a tragic loss of countless innocent lives and hundreds of individuals taken hostage. This attack prompted Israel to respond with military operations aimed at targeting Hamas’ leadership and infrastructure, leading to widespread destruction in Gaza. Though it was not the start of this conflict, the October 7th attacks and the ongoing violence since that day underscore the urgent need for a meaningful path toward peace.

I am dedicated to working with our regional partners to achieve a solution with lasting security and prosperity for Israelis and Palestinians. I support Israel’s right to defend itself, and I am devastated by the loss of innocent lives in Gaza. I hope we can achieve a lasting ceasefire so that all hostages are returned to their families and Gazans can receive the aid needed to rebuild their lives. That is why I cosponsored the Senate Resolution 224, which calls upon the White House and the State Department to use all diplomatic tools to bring the hostages home, end to the blockade on food and humanitarian aid for Palestinians, and achieve a ceasefire. I have engaged with a wide range of organizations, leaders, and constituents from across the spectrum of opinions on this matter. As your Senator, I will support policies that promote dignity, safety, and regional stability.

I am committed to ensuring that every perspective is respected as we continue to work toward peace and security. I hope you will not hesitate to contact me again through my website https://www.alsobrooks.senate.gov or my office at 202-224-4524.

It is an honor to represent you in the United States Senate.

I was initially thinking the fascists might benefit from reading Aesop’s fable of the sun and the wind - gentle persuasion prevails over force - but even recognizing the moral, they’d prefer to emulate the wind anyhow since they fetishize cruelty
A passage from Aesop’s fable “The North Wind and the Sun” reads, “Then the Sun began to shine. At first his beams were gentle, and in the pleasant warmth after the bitter cold of the North Wind, the Traveler unfastened his cloak and let it hang loosely from his shoulders. The Sun's rays grew warmer and warmer. The man took off his cap and mopped his brow. At last he became so heated that he pulled off his cloak, and, to escape the blazing sunshine, threw himself down in the welcome shade of a tree by the roadside.

An excerpt from the book "Orientalism and War" by Tarak Barkawi & Keith Stanski describes how, in 1950, liberals were more concerned with distinguishing themselves from the American left, rather than conservatives, before the Korean War.
