Also love how the DCU doesn't revolve around anyone. Not even Superman The MCU at its peak still had an MC in Iron Man. Even the DCAU kinda revolved around Batman Supergirl and Creature Commandos are maybe the only exceptions but it's fine in CC (whole point is the world don't revolve around them)

I LOVE how similar John's journey in Lanterns is to Clark's in Superman. Both men of about the same age whose journey is all about forging their own path and not the path intended for them by their parents. This connection IMMEDIATELY makes the idea of them forming a Justice League feel natural.

I used to think Flash and Peter had a great dynamic. Until I watched my My Hero Academia. Now I think it needs a bit more work lol Deku and Bakugo are based on Peter and Flash, but their friendship and Bakugo's growth are way more fleshed out. Both before and after Venom. Y'all gotta watch MHA!!🔥

Speaking of Lanterns, it's arguably another project that wouldn't have happened in the 2010s when the superhero genre was bigger. We are finally getting more stuff not meant to be marketed at everyone just like with X-Men 97 If you're a fan of the genre, don't fret over it not being as big anymore

Lanterns is REALLY good 🔥. Or at least episode 1 is. I don't even mind the decision to make it grounded. Very 90s X-Files. Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan steals the show. First DCU project *not* made by Gunn to turn out good lol. There's some non-Gunn hope for the DCU after all.

Lastly, MCU Pete. Like I said, the ending isn't "natural". They kinda just decide that after the spell he is now Classic Peter Parker LOL But the idea of the most privileged Spidey becoming the least privileged and loneliest is genuonely the perfect way to save MCU Spider-Man's soul. And it did.

Because of all this, the inclusion of Tobey and Andrew in NWH doesn't feel cheap or like solely done for nostalgia baiting. I would argue it is way more justifiable story-wise than Jackman coming back as Wolverine or Evans coming back as Steve (though the verdict is still out on that one).

Both Peters left off in a somber place. Andrew gets to have resolution over Gwen, embrace life balance and gain motivation to go out and find his MJ. With Tobey we get satisfaction from knowing him and MJ worked it out, that he is WAY more comfortable in his skin but still "trying to be better".

No Way Home I actually understand a lot of the critiques for this. There definitely are some script issues and inconsistencies. For example, Peter's transition from Iron Man Jr to Spider-Man ain't fully consistent. Neither is him "curing" the villains. (How does curing them stop them from death?)

Last thing I'll say is that to this day, Andrew Garfield is still (IMO) the best and perfect Spider-Man 🔥 It will always be a shame he never got better material to work with But at the very least, I'm glad his Spider-Man won't fall into obscurity or be an afterthought. I have NWH to thank for that

The last scene with the kid - him running up to the Rhino, the buildup to Spider-Man being behind him calling him "Hey, Spider-Man" - is still one of the best and most emotional endings in any superhero movie. I'd say check it out 'cuz there's a lot of good in it, but you probably did thanks to NWH

Even the tone variations, while not great and unintentional, kinda work sometimes thanks to Andrew Garfield. We are so much in Peter's head that it feels like the movie changes tones the way real life will suddenly change tones. It's very Spider-Man. The Gone Gone Gone scene being a good example

Yet even with the writing being less tight than in TASM, I like it more due to having more of a voice than TASM. This is also Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man at his peak. And the chemistry🔥 To this day, no couple in live-action had chemistry like Andrew and Emma. Not even Tom & Zendaya.

Alright... The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Honestly? If we are strictly talking tone and style and Peter characterization, this is my favorite of all the live-actions. It's a shame the script isn't solid and pretty weak. But I still remember thinking in 2014 this was the Spidey film I was waiting for.

The film honestly deserves more props for that One flaw with Garfield, surprisingly... His Peter kinda has the total opposite problem of Tobey's. He starts out a little too much like post-bite Pete... a bit too confident for an origin story. NOT a problem if you're not doing the origin but you are.

Another underrated role... Chris Zylka is HELLA underrated as Flash. ZOMFG BEST live-action Flash 🔥 He isn't any less off the page than Peter and Gwen (Gwen is a bit different since she's an update but you get it). They manage to get so much of his personality and depth in such little screentime

And that is this film's biggest flaw: There's no reason to go back to it unless you're craving to see Andrew and Emma in their respective roles. That doesn't make it bad, but it makes it boring a lot of the time. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone continue to be the best part of this duology, though.
