...the pink color scheme, and the "Hello There" sign, as if she decorated it to remind herself to keep her spirits up through the daily grind of being an underappreciated secretary, an extremely relatable touch in an otherwise very fantastical movie. Plus, that yellow chair just looks super comfy.

I've always liked Selina Kyle's apartment in Batman Returns, with the way it conveys that, even though it's a bit cramped and rundown, with the girder on the right side seeming to symbolize the weight of the city coming down on her, it still has upbeat touches like the stuffed animals... 1/2

Yeah, but I get the feeling that calling it "The Texas Semi-Truck Massacre" wouldn't have had the same ring to it.

Wait, so the original TCM didn't actually have a chainsaw massacre in it? Sounds like that movie's a phony... a big fat phony!

Speaking of, I just stumbled upon this interview Buzzfeed did with Ivana Baquero for its 20th anniversary, which I found pretty interesting, especially with how she's gone back and forth with her interpretation of its ending, something I've done myself a couple of times since 2006: shorturl.at/bLKB3

...and the one time they accidentally shoot an innocent guy (who survives), they go way out of their way to exonerate him after initially framing him, all of which felt like an attempt to keep us from turning on the Strike Team too much as viewers, even though they're objectively filthy pigs.

I'd say an aspect of the show that bothers me more is the fact that, besides an incident in the pilot (which was a very unusual case), Vic & company only ever kill crooks (and REALLY BAD crooks at that), and never have any George Floyd-style incidents with an innocent civilian during the series...

MST3K's Return Is Another Absolute Banger (Review)

Yes indeed; great show otherwise, but this is the most early 2000's edgelord junk ever, and you just know Kurt Sutter probably thought it was cool, judging from the "edginess" of Sons Of Anarchy: youtu.be/069OoA63I84?...

Slow rollout zine launch. I can handle a few orders right now. If anyone would like to buy Cartoon Chronology, a new zine on 1930-31 animation, now, DM me. With shipping, it comes to $14CAD for Canadians and approximately $17.50USD for Americans. Sticking to CAN/USA only right now.
My zine opened up, its text partially obscured by the cover of another zine copy on top of it.

This sort of only happens in wrestling. The equivalent of a funeral episode for a performer. This tradition of grief. They're often beautiful, and they help everyone collectively grieve, and celebrate. It helps in moving on, but I'd rather never have to watch one of these ever again.

It's part of the reason why the Schumacher era movies don't do much for me, because the series did already have that campiness, so when you take out so much of the darkness and add in more goofy stuff, it ends up turning into MAJOR tonal overkill.

Yup; people tend to remember the Burton Batmans as being just examples of the darker modern takes on the character, but there was still plenty of lighter moments in them (the plastic grocery store Batmobile ride The Penguin was using in Returns, anyone?) to give them a good balance.

As someone who loves film, this whole narrative that "there are no good guys or bad guys anymore, moral relativism is killing modern cinema" pisses me off because of how ahistorical it is. 1970s cinema was practically defined by antiheroes. 50 fucking years ago! Half a century ago! 🤷
