When Tolkien actually tries, he writes complex female characters, and they're never the same. Each one is different, each in a different story that's doing different things... Even Arwen isn't as much of a repeat of Lúthien as she seems on the surface.

And it's so frustrating that The Silmarillion is the one that most people struggle with, because THAT'S where most of the amazing women are! There's Lúthien and her mama, Melian, of course, but there's also Varda and Yavanna and Nienna and Arien and Aredhel and Haleth and Idril and Elwing!

It is so frustrating to me that there are a) no women in The Hobbit and b) not many women in LotR, because when Tolkien takes more than half a minute to write a female character, he does so well with them!

Technically, I know why I'm depressed. I haven't been able to see my mom for two weeks, I haven't been getting enough sleep, and lack of income is a consistent issue. What SUCKS is that knowing WHY I'm feeling depressed right now doesn't HELP it.

Even I somehow managed to forget just how damn UNLIKEABLE Sherlockians can get when they're talking about adaptations, because nobody hates Sherlockian media more than Sherlockians. It's exhausting. This is literally why I quit the fandom for a couple of years back when I still didn't know anybody.
