The varied architecture of Chester. The 1799 Shot Tower in the centre, Waitrose, opened in 2014 (I was there) on the right, and the Moxy Hotel on the left, opened in 2020. The scorched earth of #Cheshire and beyond, seen from #Beeston Castle. Despite it being the driest July in 190 years and in August so far, England only seeing 6% of the average seasonal rainfall, the county still doesn't officially have #drought status.
Brown fields stretch into the distance across Cheshire, punctuated by some trees and hedgerows. I spent a lot of my visit to Chester walking along the city walls. This was my favourite bit, around the Kaleyard Gate. In this weekend’s painting, the ancient wall is framed by 18th and 19th century buildings and trees. In the distance is the King Charles Tower. #painting #chester
