They went down into the swaying sea of green and yellow and subtle fragrance. They tumbled. Satoru ended up with his back on the ground, looking up at Geto’s pretty face outlined by a clear blue sky.

Hair tickled Satoru’s chin. He smiled. “Are you prepared to see me destroy this entire field?”

Geto flinched. He had such obvious tells. “I can regrow any plant.”

“But it won’t be the same one, will it? I know your kind. You’re so particular about the things in your care.”

“My kind?”

“Deities of the living.”

Geto’s expression shifted at that, in a way that Satoru couldn’t read. “Maybe I’m not very similar to others of ‘my kind’.”

Satoru takes what he wants, and gets more than he bargained for.

“What have we said about respecting my privacy, Satoru?”

Satoru shrugs, jostling Suguru so badly he needs to adjust his footing. “I dunno. Something about how I should do it, probably. Who cares.”

“I care.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, any thoughts on who’s sending you these?” Satoru pokes the note with a long, pale finger, calloused from playing basketball and piano both.

Suguru wants to bite it. “None. I have no idea who they’re from, and I don’t care to find out.”

It’s a good thing that Suguru began his career as a liar at five years of age, after he’d broken the neighbours’ window with a carefully aimed rock. It comes easy to him, lying, especially when he feels that the moral high ground is his. And in this particular case, it most definitely is.

Suguru has been receiving 'anonymous' love notes for months. He has a reason for ignoring them.

Satoru doesn’t see him walk in, too busy gauging the exact moment he needs to let Kuro go, so that he and Shiro will do a perfect crossover. After that it’s a lot of cheering and letting Kuro hang off of a tug toy. When Satoru straightens to take in his surroundings, adrenaline still buzzing in his system, the first thing he sees is Suguru’s pleased smile, his eyes crinkled slightly.

“That was a good pass,” Suguru praises. “Larue said you’ve only been training for a few months, which makes it even more impressive.”

Satoru can almost physically feel his brain stuttering. Suguru’s wearing a black tank top that looks painted on. The cargo pants with many pockets, weighed down with treats and toys, ride low enough on his hips to expose a strip of skin.

Satoru’s mouth pulls into a toothy grin. “Yeah, see, I’m good at everything I try.”

“Larue also said that you talk big.” Suguru’s polite smile feels like a challenge.

If anyone asked, Satoru would say that he got into flyball completely by accident.

“I was thinking about Suguru,” he says bluntly, raising his head to face Shoko, so she doesn’t get the wrong idea. He’s not embarrassed. “It hit me that I miss him, and then…”

Suguru dismisses the pelican before his girls can clamber out of its beak, letting them spill onto the ground in a heap. The tall, striking figure of the strongest sorcerer slows as he takes the last few steps towards them, then stops just out of arm’s reach.

“You’re Geto, then?” Gojo Satoru asks, inflection flat, body neither stiff nor relaxed. His expression is difficult to read with a blindfold hiding his eyes.

“Geto Suguru.” Suguru bows, not too deep. “And these are Nanako and Mimiko.” He gestures to each girl in turn.

They make a very silly picture right now, still struggling to untangle their limbs and straighten their hair and clothes at the same time. Suguru hides a grimace behind a smile. The skirts the twins have chosen for their first day here are definitely too short.

“You sure know how to make an entrance,” Gojo says, not without humour. “So, twins, huh? Unlucky.”

Suguru enrolls Nanako and Mimiko at Jujutsu Tech. He’s just being a good parent.
