Today, someone told us they found h/te symbols & slurs written on the bridge at Nicholas Sheran. After we painted over them, we walked to the Dear Stranger project on the other side of the park, & found this note, left the night before. I want everyone to visit this park & feel safe. #lethbridge

I have attempted to get in contact with someone above this manager, but none of my emails have received a reply. The franchise head also has not replied. It is beginning to smell a bit rotten. #yql

This individual is affiliated with a well known church charity in #Lethbridge that aims to uplift vulnerable people. The manager of this charity also jumped in the fray to belittle me when I raised concern about the rac!st videos I saw.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 12/06/2026

I have copies of the videos, but have not felt comfortable sharing them publicly because the content is inherently h/teful & platforming it (even for awareness) feels like perpetuating harm. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, etc?

120

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 12/06/2026

There is a videographer in #Lethbridge that has been using AI to generate rac!st & v!olent videos. He has also been targeting us (& others) mal!ciously for years. I have been quiet about the h/r/ssment I have received but clearly silence is what allows this behaviour to entrench.

Running on "how bad the other team is" only works for those who see politics as a sport. 🥲 An inspiring alternative would go bonkers. Holding out hope for this, too

011

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 21/05/2026

They should call an election and run on it, & all the other stuff they're pushing without any mandate. I still remember being gaslit that none of this "would happen" during the campaign season. This is so performative.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

So, we'll screen it again. For those who missed it. And for me, who didn't scream loudly about it & invite everyone out because I was scared.

011

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

Anyway, we made a bonkers film about all of this (& more) & it's scary because southern Alberta isn't super receptive to souls like mine.. ..but someone saw it yesterday & said it gave them hope for Lethbridge.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

The interactive art installations we do as SB try to tackle this; we try to showcase that even one small Pastry can do things in the city that can create a ripple. We hope it inspires others to think about how they can do small things, too.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

I also believe that in order for things to change, it has to start with hope. With imagination. We have to be able to picture a better world, before we can ever hope to create it.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

I believe one of the biggest hurdles to progress IS feeling like it is futile. And I've seen how spotlighting "the bad" can lead people to a spot of feeling disempowered, because there is so much that needs to change & it's easy to feel powerless in the face of it.

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

It is hard for me to balance being a blink of optimism (my natural inclination) & spotlight all the beauty of southern Alberta, while also being acutely aware of the not-so-great parts. Sometimes I feel like talking about the "bad" positions me as yet another critical voice "hating" on our city

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026

I confess: I was scared to screen this again. It is the most radical of all of our films as it's also the most #Lethbridge critical. Having said that, in the scheme of things, it still is pretty gentle. 😅

110

pastry / appreciator 🧁🎉 @strudelbrand.com · 20/05/2026
