Agave #cactus (Leuchtenbergia principis) is blooming in my garden today. It's monotypic which means it's the only member of its genus. It's native to north-central Mexico (San Luis Potosi, Chihuahua). The #flowers are sweetly fragrant. 🌵🏵️

I had tickets to Bracken Cave this past weekend but stayed in San Diego to get a new kitten adjusted. Being in the presence of local wildlife ended up being rewarding as well. This is among my favorite photos I've taken of long-beaked common #dolphins (Delphinus capensis). 🐬✨

I planted a small Mexican lime #cactus (Ferocactus pilosus) years ago and this is its first time blooming. The other flowers are California fuchsia (Epilobium canum), a favorite native of our hummingbirds that seeds freely and blooms when many other locals have finished up.

It's my first time blooming Homalopetalum pumilio. It was going to have three flowers, but Man Hands over here yanked one off while checking on some nearby angraecum buds. 🙄Kew says this orchid's native range is N. Central & S. Mexico to Ecuador. #orchid

This is Brassavola Crazyarachno (perrinii x appendiculata) crossed back to perrinii. It's night-fragrant as one would expect given its parentage. I picked it up at the Huntington at their fall #orchid show a couple of years ago. It grows outdoors year-round in coastal San Diego.

"Solset" is one of the paintings that found a new home at Comic-Con. It was inspired by Spirit rover's captures of a Mars sunset. I don't expect everyone who appreciates my work to purchase it, yet knowing someone likes it enough to put it on a wall is the ultimate compliment. #art #space
