A blue background, with colourful cartoons of Leeds buildings along the bottom, two teal dragons in the sky and the word "POSTPONED" across the centreBlack text on a white background reading "With huge apologies for the delay in this announcement, unfortunately there won't be an It's Strange Up North event this year.

Life has conspired against us in many different ways and time has simply gotten away from us.

But this is not the end of It's Strange Up North! We love these events, we knew there was an appetite for sci-fi, fantasy and horror events in the north and we have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response they've got so far. We're already having discussions about next year, we've kept all your amazing suggestions of authors you'd love to see, we will be back!

In the meantime, please put suggestions of any authors you'd like to see in the comments, let us know what you loved about the events so far, anything new you'd like to see in the future.

Thank you again for all your support and we're really sorry that there will be no It's Strange Up North this year"

This was, truly, the most fun event I've ever been a part of - and the turnout was HUGE! Such an amazing evening, thanks to the organisers, the staff, the other authors, and all those who came along. It's a joy to have something like this up north. Make sure you get along to next year's event!

So @strangeupnorth.bsky.social last night at Leeds Waterstones was an amazing event. Met some lovely people and signed lots of copies of Withered Hill & Scuttler’s Cove, and gave a lot of people crabs 🦀 (insert your own gag). Failed to take any pix though.

With only 10 days to go, it's time to look at @richardswanauthor.bsky.social Richard's books includes a space opera trilogy(The Art of War), books for Black Library (Blood Harvest & Tears of Raphaela), an epic fantasy trilogy (The Empire of the Wolf) and his latest offering, Grave Empire.
The cover of Grave Empire by Richard Swan, featuring a shield in the middle, topped with a demonic skull, a dragon skull at the bottom, and surrounded by cannons, soldiers with banners, a shark, a large cat, rampant lions, cogs and flamesThe cover of The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan, featuring a man with a sword sitting on a marble throne carved with a woman holding a sword above him, flanked by women with wolf heads and angel wingsWhite background with the text: Blood once turned the wheels of empire. Now it is money.

A new age of exploration and innovation has dawned, and the Empire of the Wolf stands to take its place as the foremost power in the known world. Glory and riches await.

But dark days are coming. A mysterious plague has broken out in the pagan kingdoms to the north, while in the south, the Empire's proxy war in the lands of the wolfmen is weeks away from total collapse.

Worse still is the message brought to the Empress by two heretic monks, who claim to have lost contact with the spirits of the afterlife. The monks believe this is the start of an ancient prophecy heralding the end of days-the Great Silence.

It falls to Renata Rainer, a low-ranking ambassador to an enigmatic and vicious race of mermen, to seek answers from those who still practice the arcane arts. But with the road south beset by war and the Empire on the brink of supernatural catastrophe, soon there may not be a world left to save . . .

And completing this, quite frankly astounding line up, we have @davewragg.com (the fantasy author, not the history guy) David writes modern fantasy, with no magic. Or dragons. Or any other magical creatures. But there are lots of swords! As well as epic adventures, humour, heart and high stakes!

A woman holding a staff kneels in the foreground, a young girl with a crossbow stands behind, and three people are in the distanceThe cover of The Iron Road by David Wragg, featuring a woman leaning on a weapon, and four figures with weapons behind herIt’s 13 years since the events of The Righteous, and the world is changed…

Ree is a woman with a violent past – a past she is eager to put behind her. After years of wandering, she and her niece, Javani, have built a small farm in mining country, at the edge of the known world, and Ree is keeping her head down.

But one day two groups of professional killers arrive in town, looking for a young girl and a white-haired woman. A deadly chase through deserts, mountains, and mines begins. And Ree will have to discover her former self if she is to keep them both alive.

The stories they carry may last longer. They might outlive the paper, the library, even the language in which they were first written.

The greatest story can reach the stars . . .

This is the start of an incredible new journey from the internationally bestselling author of Prince of Thorns, in which, though the pen may be mightier than the sword, blood will be spilled and cities burned…

Evar has lived his whole life trapped within a vast library, older than empires and larger than cities.

Livira has spent hers in a tiny settlement out on the Dust where nightmares stalk and no one goes.

The world has never noticed them.

That’s about to change.

As their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time, each will unlock vast secrets about the world and themselves. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.
