Man, I miss when handhelds (and game systems) were weird. Picked up a WonderSwan, odd button arrangement. Cool design potential, though! That's what game consoles need: the potential for unique game design.

Well, SEGA used AI to create the new CRAZY TAXI. First: why? Second: Way to absolutely kneecap your punk rock aesthetic. The new Jet Set might've used AI too if this wasn't an isolated incident... I love corporations!

Cover art for Ehrgeiz, the greatest fighting game barely anyone has played. Did you know there was a single player RPG mode in this? With a randomized dungeon? Nowadays we'd call that a roguelike... Square was so ahead of the time.

Me after the new Resident Evil 4 Crowbcat video Felt like they just gave up after their video on RE4 being soulless, but that's a critique I put on every remake. Especially a game like RE4 that didn't need a remake. But almost all my friends who said "The RE4 remake is pointless" bought it...

Yoshihisa was also cool as fuck. I talk about him in the same breath as I do Tomonobu Itagaki, Hideo Kojima, and Hideki Kamiya when gushing to friends about game developers I feel spoke to my tastes and helped form my own perception of what's cool. You can't replace that, he was one of a kind.

Hilltop alone exposed me to titles that rekindled my joy for gaming. Maybe the first game that exposed me to their work, The Maid Uniform and Machinegun, isn't high art. To me, it's magnificent--a wonderful little title. Something about THIS game keeps me hunting and playing games most glance over.

I'd also like to expose myself, I went on a SEGA shopping spree here and picked up some boxed Saturn and Dreamcast stuff. If you told me I'd be buying SEGA stuff while selling my Nintendo stuff 10 years ago, I'd laugh at you. I guess your tastes really do change with age. RIP Hidekazu Yukawa.

#3 -- Baldur's Gate (1998) It took me a while to get into this one, admittedly. When I first tried it ~11 years ago I attempted to play online co-op (do not do this) and didn't have fun. Years later, after failing to find a group to play D&D with, I booted up Baldur's Gate and was hooked.

#2 -- RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 I haven't put a ton of hours into this game, but I can't get enough of the depth it has to offer when I do boot it up. Simple fun, but there's so much love for such a specific subject (roller-coasters) it's impossible not to feel joy when designing a park.

#1 -- Morrowind Morrowind is easily the game which left the strongest impression on me. While the Metal Gear series taught me that games could be art, Morrowind showed me what that truly meant. From the insane, eclectic lore to the fantastically alien world, Morrowind never stops inspiring me.

Absolutely OBSESSED with the Commodore 64 version of Tetris. Learned about it yesterday: its ONE SONG is a 26 minute long composition I can only describe as an electronic ballad that doesn't sound anything like what you'd expect for Tetris. Even weirder: its title screen is odd, yet striking.
