i hope that if you do try to reconnect and approach the ones you cherished that things go well. i feel like personally i would hope that someone who was made uncomfortable by something in the past could look at your growth and be happy to see it or at least have some respect to an old friend

this is almost exactly the same situation that caused me to go sober from alcohol and i spent a long time mulling over how mortifying and uncomfortable that kind of experience was. im glad u were able to get to a better place with alcohol and i hope that you can feel comfortable closing that gap

i dont remember where i got the advice but ive found success doing stuff by telling myself "i am not the kind of person who doesnt (thing you dont want to do)". i think it feels helpful because it externalizes the action and its perception and separates it from the endless stream of internal noise
