When are you adding polygon drawing?

Get Mateer off this team yesterday.

Maybe “exactly 0 input” isnt fair. I’ve tried really hard to give them what we have on the sounding front. They say they’ll look into it.

Kelton Halbert @stormscale.io · 26/09/2026
I’ve been trying but so far they’ve taken exactly 0 input. I’m one of the “SAGE” testers so I guess we’ll see if they start listening.

Anything you guys would like to see added or done?

A substantial amount of work has gone into making this possible and at least somewhat intuitive on mobile, too. Multi-site level 2 with MRMS and split-pane pushes the browser to its limits. A resourcing model will reduce your loop size in order to fit your site + pane config.

Ahhhhh see I am aware of Solo II, but I never got to use it!

Archive mode is fully supported. The compositing logic is such that you can blend MRMS with level 2, but also overlay MRMS on top of level 2. On the left display, MRMS reflectivity is an underlay masked by the range gate. On the right, semi-transparent rotation tracks are on top of velocity.

I’m afraid to admit this one may have sailed right over my head

I've been fairly quiet on the Heimdall front, but that's because I've been working on some massive updates behind the scenes. Still rough edges to smooth over, interactivity behaviors to flesh out, and some bugs to squash, but... - single-site level 2 radar - multi-site level 2 radar - compositing

Big REFS Transition Project 2 (SPC REFS viewer v1) is functionally complete. I sent a version around to SPC forecasters for a final pass at bugs this afternoon (though I realized I had a few more 5-minute tweaks I wanted to make when grabbing these screenshots).

It took a year and a half, but my @crunchlabs.bsky.social space selfie with Emily finally arrived! It’s a CubeSat with a screen and camera. You can request certain conditions for your selfie too So, that’s super awesome.

I used it earlier and it’s awesome. Chasing with it is going to be amazing.

I added a CIG1 for hail in the 20Z update today. I am just barely skirting in with those lines, I probably should’ve expanded further north a bit. But, it looks like the environment had just enough juice to **potentially** produce 2” hail. MESH is not a hail observation, but it’s something!

Awesome to see more apps/platforms making use of ProbSevere data! I’m always in favor of improving the ability to synthesize multiple data sources. Congrats to them for releasing a useful and cool component.

Forgot to post this yesterday, but a decade ago @twisterkid34.bsky.social and I would talk about working at SPC one day. Pretty cool moment to train on the outlook update with him and issue a joint convective outlook.

I feel nothing after that win. I think I may have been happier with a loss. Georgia is going to eat this team alive.

Brent’s interview was so disappointing. It’s clear that he’s completely detached from the offensive side of the ball and there’s no excuse for that.

Man, just clean house at OU at this point. No excuses.

I’ve been calling for Bill Bedenbaugh to be fired for years now. When it finally happens, I’m going to feel such catharsis. Absolute bum of an OLine coach.

Oh cool the person doing the bashing was an important NWS person. Love that.

It shouldn’t bother me, I just don’t get what the point of going on a tangent about “SHARPpy being god awful” does for anyone. Maybe just frustration at it being a dead project. Idk. Just weird and left a bad taste.

Love being on a NWS training session about hodographs only for someone to spend 5 minutes bashing a passion project you spent years on for the benefit of the community

The eclipse is a banger though. www.stormscale.io/photos/total... So, if you’re looking for some gifts as we get closer to the holiday season, or just want a cool photo, you can help me pay for my wedding and honeymoon 🙃. The metals print costs have gone up, but the regular photos are available

After a long hiatus, my photography page has returned! It’s updated with new entries, retains randomized layout on refresh, & also adds lightbox functionality & direct links to the photos. Oh, and you can order prints directly from me now. They make great gifts 😁. www.stormscale.io/photos

Wow, this team is an absolute joke. Tarmac Mateer, Arbuckle, and Bill Bedenbaugh all at once.

No, no they are not. At least we know where to set expectations this year. Maybe we’ll make a bowl game.

I've encountered this too. Creating explainer artifacts, figures, and animations have proven useful for learning new concepts too.

However, my daily tasks aren't management, so I may not be as sensitive to your pain points!
120
Kelton Halbert @stormscale.io · 12/09/2026
It's hard to describe. I think the rapid prototyping and iteration makes it feel less tedious and more exploratory. That said, you're completely in control of how much you want to outsource/manage, or how in the weeds and technical you want to be. I take a fairly hands-on approach in many areas.

I can definitely understand that hang-up, and there is a reason why I still have personal projects that I hand-code. This isn't the primary reason but could be considered a reason. As someone who is allergic to management though (sorry @pmarshwx.com), it doesn't *feel* like management to me.
