Hey #crossstitch peeps, I'm looking for a sparkly pink or grey aida or lugana. Ideally from a Canadian seller. Anyone has a store to recommend? (Picture of the project for attention).

Have I picked up my cross stitch again? No. Have made needle minders from the guitar picks that came with my James Oliver books? Yes, yes, I did! Maybe it'll help me get back to it!

Haven't cross stitched at all but Emna from Farouches podcast feministe inspired me to make this pattern (it's French for if you were a spice you'd be corn strach) 😅

Last night I finished reading this book, after months of reading a page here and there. It's my second physical book finish of the year, sounds like I'm actually doing the whole back to physical media thing!

Let's see if BlueSky #booksky is better at recommendations than booksta! Weird, liminal, 80s/90s vibes, horror, or very niche nonfiction prefered 🙏🏻

16.56% done and time to move the hoop but I think I might call it a night and curl up with a book. How's everyone stitching going this weekend?

It is done! Pattern is from The Witchy Stitcher's upcoming book. I did not follow the pattern exactly I changed some colors and didn't give the characters their hat because I liked them better without, in the pattern the little bat guy has some detailing and orange eyes and mouth, wasn't my vibe.

@stevewestenra.bsky.social I felt this paragraph in my bones. Was it intentionally written to be read to the tune of a Ghost Town (or any other electro-core band really) song?

I'm still sick to the point where I feel faint from doing the dishes for 5 minutes but Pretty Boi the betta is being a good dad and the pods are isopoding quite beautifully so it's not all bad.

Are you looking for a cozy horror mystery with colorful and fun characters? Hazel Graves has you covered!
Cover of the book The little Coffee Shop of Terrors by Hazel Graves (the cover features a coffee cup on a saucer with red liquid seeping from the edge and there's a tuxedo cat in the background) behind the cover is a picture of an eclectic vintage maximalist decor and the word review is next to the cover. Below are 5 mugs to indicate the rating of the book.Text: Graves' Little Coffee Shop of Terrors is a delightful blend of cozy mystery settings and low angst horror vibes. The characters were so much fun and the ending was great.

If you've read Cackle by Rachel Harrison, you know the kind of vibe I'm talking about, alas no spider pet here just a tuxedo cat and a pothos named Audrey III (which I really liked since I have a healthy appreciation for naming plants especially pothos, mine are named Regina and Queen).

The sense of humor is very millennial coded and I was absolutely here for it.

From the 70 books I've read so far this year this is the second one which I'm certain will make it to my favorite of the year list. Can't recommend it enough. 🩸📚
Picture of the book is it enough yet by Emily Flynn-Jones a collection of melancholic horror stories inspired by millenial music. The book is on a pale background featuring glittery black hearts and above it there's the word review in a distressed font. At the bottom partly in front of it are 5 small pink Medusa busts. "they walked together, towards inevitablity"

Is quiet pink horror a thing? Because I'm pretty confident it's what this collection of short stories (Is it Enough Yet? by Emily Flynn-Jones) is and it is absolutely delightful (as long as your version of delightful includes horror).

Bleak, heartbreaking and occasionally bloody but also a tender love letter to girlhood and to the music that speaks to the core of your soul for better or worse (a quintessentially millenial thing apparently. Beautifully and unpretentiously written it really had everything to sink its claws into my mind.

I wasn't familiar with any of the songs referenced in the book and it didn't diminish my enjoyment, not one bit.

It even had little bits about the author's inspiration and creative process for each story which I really enjoyed. It reminded me a little of Acts of Violence by Marcus Hawke another one of my criminally slept on favorites (is it a canadian thing to give extra context or just an anxiety thing?). This is the second book I've read this year which I can already tell is going to be a favorite for the year.

Long story short, I can't recommend this book enough.
