Is there anything better than a torch song made entirely out of perfect production decisions? I submit that there is not. youtu.be/04OL5nAfflw

@recdiffs.bsky.social Was hilarious hearing you both discover PronunciationManual. I remember discovering that channel back in the 2012-ish time period and laughing to tears, which I repeated recently sharing some classic examples with my parents, culminating in my favorite: youtu.be/BZVBTtX92Nc

To this day I don’t understand who was stopping DJ Kool from clearing his throat.

Remember how boy band haters in the late 90s would say “98 Disease” or “N’STINK”? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Love to see kids all around the world picking up guitars and playing chords and writing songs. I think even @hotdogsladies.bsky.social could get into this one. That bridge!

After spending a full weekend with it at high-but-reasonable volume (sorry neighbors), I’m ready to declare “Inferno” Boards of Canada’s best work but for the plodding, too-long “All Reason Departs”—the only flaw on an otherwise flawless album.

With 23 years of perspective, I think I can finally definitively state that the back half of The Postal Service’s “Give Up” is the better half, that every song on that side is better than “Such Great Heights”, and that the album as a whole feels dated in a way that DCFC’s “Transatlanticism” doesn’t.

@hotdogsladies.bsky.social Sausage Night: it’s not just for night anymore!

A rectangular glass container of food on a kitchen counter, filled with a bed of white jasmine rice and Merlin Mann’s “Sausage Night” atop, a recipe involving browned kielbasa sausage, wilted cabbage, and pan-sautéed garlic & onion with a glaze of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and toasted sesame oil. The container sits in front of a wooden salt box and the bottom half of a bottle of avocado oil, with a paper towel roll dispenser barely visible in the corner of the frame.

I’d like to offer a general apology to all Harukis living in Japan for the last 22 years. I took “your” Gmail address over two decades ago and it has never been available to you. Thanks to you and your presumable friends for all the cat pictures over the years, though.

Sufjan Stevens has another 9 months to release another primarily acoustic album of heartfelt paeans to life, love, loss, and/or America if he wants to meet his apparent “once a decade” schedule of appealing to me, specifically. In other news, “Carrie & Lowell” is ten years old.
