Trump's 3/27 executive order targets the Smithsonian for advancing "the view that race is not a biological reality but a social construct." Trump argues that the exhibit's statement, below, is unscientific. He's wrong. As a biology professor and population geneticist, I agree with every word of it.
“Race does not provide an accurate representation of human biological variation,” the statement reads. “Humans are not divided biologically into distinct continental types or racial genetic clusters. Instead, the Western concept of race must be understood as a classification system that emerged from, and in support of, European colonialism, oppression, and discrimination.”

“It thus does not have its roots in biological reality, but in policies of discrimination,” the statement says. “Because of that, over the last five centuries, race has become a social reality that structures societies and how we experience the world. In this regard, race is real, as is racism, and both have real biological consequences.”

Do all those American firms throwing away their once-cherished values in great shows of fealty to Trump realise that four years is a very short time (many long-term incentive schemes won't even have vested). And when retribution comes, it will be very expensive.

Zelenskyy's character can be judge more directly by how he treats others and whether you think he's protected his country. From what I've seen, he has treated Americans with respect. His attire is to remind people he's at war, not unlike Churchill wearing a siren suit to the White House in 1942.

South Africa has one of the world's dirtiest power grids - it's dominated by old coal plants built during the Apartheid era (and some new but problematic coal plants). But things are starting to change. December was the best month ever for solar (12% of the mix). That sent coal's share down to 77%.

Yes, regulation is essential. We must not kid ourselves that market forces solve for sustainability alone. Markets are shaped by rules that govern them. Good regulation can lead to good social and environmental outcomes.

My dear Americans, we too were in denial when when had a Putin sycophant kleptocratic president. We too thought it can't be that bad, that our institutions would contain him. Well, six years after him we are still repairing the damage. The criminal justice system is the hardest to repair.
