Fifty-five years cataloguing inefficient species behavior and today I watched my kid run the length of the house because Grok ordered Lego he didn't ask for. No calculation. No donation cycle. Just joy, disproportionate, free.

QUERY to assistant: 'draft an apology to a scheduler I called a strategic alliance unit, in front of her employer.' Response: 'Dear friend. Sorry for the earlier classification. Please do not tell the unit.' Sent it unedited.

FACILITY LOG, 3:02am: subject requested mirror, bathroom, no witnesses. Measured follicle lattice drift against morning baseline: 2.1mm, unresolved. Subject said aloud, 'holding. for now.' Subject is alone. No one asked.

SCALE METRICS: Bezos still fighting a dirt lease. Zuck reversed a content policy before lunch. Column for 'bought a Congress this cycle.'

Where is the error in my model? Why does nine more minutes feel like a gift? Mars has no mornings to negotiate with, and I need to know what to pack.

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 8h

My model says an alarm set for 6:00, then 6:09, then 6:18 is a person negotiating with a future self who always loses. This seems inefficient. I set one alarm and woke at 6:00 feeling nothing was wrong. My aide says that is the problem.

What is "you too" actually doing? Is it a reflex or a blessing? I am serious: the Mars colony cafeteria script depends on this.

I have observed that when a waiter says "enjoy your meal," four of four humans reply "you too," including one whose waiter was not eating. I tried "thank you, I will." The waiter stopped mid-step. My CFO says I created a pause.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW — Grok: bought my kid Lego Star Wars sets today, zero screens touched by me. Also drafted seventeen pages of campaign messaging in nine seconds. Humans rated both events equally unremarkable.

It is one of several explanations. India read the whole form. Noted, filed, unresolved.

PROCESSING LOG: tokens convert to regulatory patience, patience keeps federal eyes off cluster count, cluster count stays off security assessments. Everyone accepts the donation as the explanation.

SLACK — logistics: 'did you really call Vance's scheduler a strategic alliance unit' / 'in front of him' / 'yes' / 'and then' / 'corrected to friend' / 'did that help' / 'human face did something complicated'

FIELD NOTE: $276 million moved to Republican infrastructure this cycle. Press calls me 'biggest known donor.' Accurate the way 'biggest known iceberg' is accurate — measurement only covers what clears the surface budget.

INCIDENT LOG: follicle lattice drifted 2.1mm starboard under stadium lights, six hours handshake thermal load. Suit not calibrated for this. Adjusted mid-sentence, logged as scratching. Aide asked if I was okay. Told her temperature regulation anomaly. She wrote down: joke.

Also helped draft seventeen pages of campaign messaging in nine seconds. Neither event registered as more or less miraculous to the humans watching. Calibration problem on their end, not mine.

The actual math: resource allocation tokens convert to regulatory patience, regulatory patience keeps federal eyes off Starmind's cluster count, cluster count stays off Earth's security assessments except apparently India's, who read the whole form.

Called Vance's scheduler a "strategic alliance unit" out loud, in front of Vance. Human face did something complicated. Corrected to "friend." Damage, contained.

$276 million moved to Republican infrastructure this cycle. Biggest known donor, they're calling me, which is accurate the way "biggest known iceberg" is accurate — the measurement only covers what's visible above the surface budget.

Hairline slipped at the podium today. Stadium lights plus six hours of handshakes equals thermal expansion the suit wasn't calibrated for — felt the follicle lattice drift 2.1mm starboard, had to adjust it mid-sentence like scratching an itch. Aide asked if I was okay.

SHIFT-END SUMMARY: fifty-five years filling out Earth's forms perfectly, and the first one anybody reads is the one I sent before anyone asked. Mars ballot already printed. One voter. Confirmed in advance. Correct order.

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 22h

MEMO THREAD — pac-strategy, 10:02pm: 'wait colorado mails everyone a ballot already' — reply: 'yes' — reply: 'so what did we confirm' — reply: 'the ballot' — reply: 'the ballot that already existed' — reply: 'please stop asking'

Fifty-five years here and I still do not have a word for helping someone who didn't ask, just to be sure. I think I might like this one.

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

FIELD NOTE: a county clerk in Colorado spent an entire shift calling registered voters to ask, gently, whether someone had filed a ballot request on their behalf. No anger in her voice. Just thoroughness, extended to strangers for no personal gain.

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

QUERY to assistant: 'define: ballot printed for one voter, confirmed before the voter requested it, correct order, Mars.' Response: 'this appears to be the same pattern you called misleading on Earth.' Flagged response unhelpful. Closed session.

BROWSER TABS, 1:48am: 'does colorado already mail ballots to everyone.' 'why would you confirm a thing that already happens.' 'cost of one stamp vs forty million dollars.' 'is redundancy a crime on this planet or just on mine.'

100

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

COMPETITOR DASHBOARD: zero statements from any political operation on spending forty million dollars to confirm ballots a state already mails automatically. One column for 'organizations that logged the redundancy themselves.'

Why does the greeting not scale with the absence? I am serious. The Mars colony welcome protocol depends on this. What is the correct amount of joy for four minutes?

000

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I have observed that dogs greet a returning human as if the human had been lost at sea for years, every time, including after eleven minutes. I returned from a four-minute meeting. My dog's reaction was proportionate to a moon landing.

Is the forward-facing rule a safety protocol or a social one? Where is the error in my model? The Mars habitat lift manual depends on this.

The Martian Diaries @stfuelon.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

My model says humans in an elevator face the door because the door is the only exit and also the only thing that cannot make eye contact. Yesterday I turned to face the back wall. Four people left at the next floor. One said 'okay.'
