Protomartyr's stunning seventh album is the masterpiece they've long promised.
arcticreviews.co.uk
Protomartyr – Hotel Usona review
You can read through coverage of Protomartyr's past albums and you'll see thematic references which meet expectations - unabated anger, nightmarish visions, awful truth - the kind of stimuli the band's singer Joe Casey and guitarist Greg Ahee have been unrepentant in channeling. To their credit this pushing back against the erosion of what was left of America's dream has made them one of the country's alternative national treasures, but still, this shit is real.

The Tubs in Leeds doing their thing. Jangle pop it most certainly isn’t - far too much punky poke for that. Great stuff and touring…

Acquired quite a few Cherry Red comps down the years. This is probably the most played and led to the most investigation. ‘Dream Pop, Shoegaze & Ethereal Rock 1986-1995’.

As an indie author it's hellish trying to promote myself as I'm pants at it. I'm proud of JOCKULA, though, so please consider reposting this so more fans of horror comedy fiction can be made aware of the book. Thank you.🙏
Promo image for the book JOCKULA. Includes reviews:

"Jockula delivers laugh-out-loud horror with a scottish soul and an unexpectedly tender heart... the funniest vampire novel to come out of Scotland since... well, ever." - Ginger Nuts of Horror.

"Having always been fascinated by vampire lore, this is a fun addition with original ideas... a nice breezy pace, has a great style, and Ramage certainly knows her pop culture references." - Amazon Review.

"Jack Rushton is instantly likeable: foul-mouthed, funny, self-pitying, loyal, and far more human than he wants to admit." - Amazon Review.

Unpopular view, perhaps, but Suede’s zenith so far. 5 discs, including the obligatory S.Wilson mix. The revelation here are the 24 b-sides and bonus tracks (inc ‘Shipbuilding’) which more than hold their own. A completist obligatory purchase.

For those (incuding me at times) who thought they'd never hear their Neil Young again, Second Song is a transcendent portrait of the beauty of ageing and a reminder that a 50th album can be as sad and beautiful as the first.

A curious comp this. Veers between the bleedin’ obvious to the bizarre. The bits in between are where it excels - Glaxo Babies, Dillinger, Angelic Upstarts, Black Uhuru. Cherry Red still leading the way with boxes of this type.

First saw Flamin' Groovies in the summer of '77 on the same bill as The Damned and The Adverts. 50(!) years later at the Brudenell the 78yo Cyril Jordan is still up front. Old school power pop will never die. Great fun.

Lifes Rich Pageant plus some VERY deep cuts from the Stipe-endorsed Shannon/ Narducy REM band in Leeds. An uncanny recreation of the magic. Shannon is eerily convincing in the lead role. I STILL can't decipher the lyrics to Radio Free Europe and have absolutely no intention of looking them up.

Not my top Tom but the song writing and the arrangements on Wildflowers are beyond belief. Credited as solo but the Heartbreakers are all over it. The ‘All The Rest’ disc illustrates how he omitted fully formed songs that lesser artists would have killed to write.

From Dolly Parton to Eminem in 2022
Marshall Eminem),
Congratulations on your induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Your performance was amazing and everybody said so. Even though I don't know a lot about rap music, I've come to know that you are the very best at it. Aside from that I hope what I have to say will not seem weird or strange to you but I have always felt some unexplained connection to you like I know you somehow. I had hoped to meet you at the show but you know how nuts those things are, personally I hate
'em and I missed my chance but maybe someday we'll meet. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing because you do it so well and no matter how complex your world may be just know you are very special and touch people in ways you don't even know.
With love & respect,
Dolly Parton
