My new favourite thing is rage-baiting idiots on Twitter with legit accessibility posts or criticisms, then muting the thread just to let them shout into the void and miss the point. Keep building up that engagement, dudes; it's spreading more accessibility info. So my work is done.

CONTROL Resonant has no traditional difficulty levels. Instead, there's the Assist Mode. Use it to make the game easier (or harder) and only adjust certain mechanics, or take advantage some of the presets provided. You can turn the Assist Mode on/off whenever you like! #CONTROLResonant

The sliders on display are Power Recovery Speed, Incoming Damage, Outgoing Damage, Outgoing Falter, Perfect Dodge Window, Enemy Projectile Speed. The tickboxes are Enhanced Melee Magnetising, Immortality, One-Hit Kills, One-Hit Falters. There's an option for Enemy Aggression, which can be set to Low, Medium, or High.

There are accessibility offerings built into those glasses, Be My Eyes as an example. It's an app/service/AI that helps blind people navigate their surroundings. I'd love to use that for the gaps in my vision that my glasses prescription can't fill. But I don't know if we'll ever get to that.

Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 24/09/2026
I'm so enamoured with Smart Glasses. I have mixed feelings about the AI behind it all. But they offer significant benefits for blind users. My biggest barrier to using them is that they can't customize prescriptions strong enough for me to use them.

Gotcha okay fair enough. I knew it wasn't going to be the magical solution to motion sickness as we all know it's rarely a "one-size-fits-all," but had thought it might help a little bit.

I feel like this might be a good way to reduce motion sickness which has always been VR's biggest accessibility hurdle. The fact you can see in your periphery through these VR glasses yes doesn't mean you get full immersion, but it's not tripping your inner ear balance, so this might just work.

It does. I'm all in favour of play how you want to play. You shouldn't feel guilty about it. The devs put it in there for a reason. They may have crafted a custom experience, but the options are there so folks can enjoy the game. It's not all about making a game "easy"; it's about making it fun.

Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 23/09/2026
Exactly!
020
Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 23/09/2026
Pretty much. Every human is different. That's why we say disability is a spectrum not an on/off switch. It's rarely ever a "one-size-fits-all" scenario.
020
Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 23/09/2026
The reason why I say this is that using the term "accessibility" in non disabled gamer circles, nowadays, it's used as a catch-all to make a game easier to play. It's not.

Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 23/09/2026
Accessibility is not just easy mode y'all. This message is brought to you by me yelling at a podcast I listen to, where the hosts were talking about a game's harder difficulty and turning on accessibility options to lessen the difficulty.

As much as I love this news being a Darkwing Duck fan since I was a kid, I am sad Jim Cummings isn’t on this list. It’s like trying to replace Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. He’s that special to me. And he can still do the role. I hope maybe he’s Negaduck or some other role in this.

Agreed with all of this. This reminds me of the Apple vs. Microsoft era. You could tell Microsoft was all engineers and no creativity. Apple was the outward epitome of creativity. That always stuck with me whenever art comes up in conversations about Microsoft. They rarely had that in their culture.

In some ways this could be good. The fact that Turn10 and Playground are now one studio gives me hope that Blind Drive Assist can survive, but with layoffs, a lot of that knowledge base is gone. Same with some of the folks in ABK. It's just a big mess right now.

I say this as a 25-year supporter of Xbox. I've worked with them many times. I've enjoyed their games. I've gotten to know developers and folks at Xbox and have some dear friendships with them. I can still criticize because what the company does impacts the industry to a massive degree.

I am saddened that more layoffs are happening today. We knew they were coming, but it doesn't make it any less impactful. We are losing this industry to death by a thousand cuts. I don't know what the solution is, but it's not consolidation, I can tell you that much.

I'm saying this because I just saw three things on my timeline that I could easily jump in and advocate for or against and my mind is already feeling burnt out. I think that's the misconception about being an advocate: you're expected to do it 24/7. But 10 years in, I'm sorry, something has to stop.
0230
Steve Saylor @stevesaylor.net · 22/09/2026
Whenever there's "discourse" about accessibility, or when someone speaks from an ableist perspective, as an advocate, you're expected to respond. I just can't anymore. At least not to EVERY discourse. I have to protect my peace. Otherwise, my mental and empathetic capacity would diminish.
